There may well be things higher up on your list of priorities than hiring a wedding photographer in St-Johns, when it comes to planning your wedding.

However, it’s well worth bumping up your wedding photos so they are near the top of your list. You need to set a budget that is sufficient for the task and get your photographer booked in St-Johns up as far in advance as possible. Your wedding day is so important in your life that you need to have a skilled wedding photographer who has the talent and the experience to capture everything perfectly. Your wedding album will tell a story that you can share with your family and your friends and even your future grandchildren.

You’ll turn to your wedding photos many times in the future, recapturing the precious memories of that special day. When your wedding day in St-Johns has come and gone, your wedding dress and shoes will be packed away, the flowers will be gone and your wedding cake will be no more. but you will have your wedding photographs forever and you will be looking over them and sharing them for years to come, so do ensure that you place enough importance on having them done properly!

Why you should hire a pro-photographer for your wedding day.

If your wedding day is just around the corner, then you have probably planned most of what you need to plan. You’ve arranged the venue, chosen your cake and booked a caterer. Your wedding dress is perfect, your wedding theme is arranged and the flowers chosen.

The wedding photographs are next on the list. Perhaps you are considering the option of asking a relative to bring their amateur photography skills to your wedding.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. This is definitely a path you should avoid.

Your wedding photos should be entrusted to a professional wedding photographer

The benefits of hiring a professional photographer far outweigh the ultimate cost of having an amateur photographer taking your photos for free! The photographer only has seconds to capture those once in a lifetime moment in photos that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

The benefits of having an expert wedding photographer

The photography equipment and software that a professional wedding photographer you hire in St-Johns will use will ensure that you get the best quality images possible.

A professional wedding photographer in St-Johns will be able to take great pictures, using a combination of skill, the latest digital equipment and software, giving you a superb finished product.

The equipment such as cameras, are just a part of what it takes to capture great wedding photographs. Camera phones are pretty amazing these days and many people are tempted to try and save money by using them for their wedding photos. This could probably be one of the biggest mistakes you make. Everyone desires photographs that are skillfully composed and expertly captured for their wedding day. I’ll explain some of these benefits in greater detail, to help you understand the value in paying a professional wedding photographer for the day in St-Johns.

Knowledge with the latest camera equipment and the use of it in varying situations. A photographer won’t be able to do the best job possible if they don’t have the lighting options or lenses they need, or the skill to use them. A professional wedding photographer is preferred because of their skill, expertise and also the equipment they use. A DSLR camera can be purchased by anyone almost certainly, but the full potential of this camera can only be unlocked by experienced professionals. The person using the equipment and the quality of equipment being used are equally important. Ideally, you want to go for high end gear, as well as an expert photographer who has the knowledge and expertise in using that equipment optimally. One of the key areas of skill is being able to use the equipment in different photographic lighting conditions, which will be necessary based on the weather and the available light available at your chosen venues.

Photographerís Roles

Another very good reason to engage the services of a professional wedding photographer in St-Johns is that theyíre going to be far less likely to become distracted than a family member or relative charged with capturing the dayís event. When you pay a professional photographer, theyíre there to do a job, whereas a family member is more likely to be looking to enjoy the celebrations.

They wonít miss that precious moment whilst chatting with wedding guests, having a beer or grabbing a slice of cake. They will be fully concentrating on the job, taking every opportunity to capture the special moments of your wedding day, whilst keeping it very low key.

Something else that is a factor is that wedding guests tend to respect photo opportunities much more when they are gently marshalled by professional photographers. If a relative is trying to organise a photo session, it might end up far less organised than if a professional were doing it.

The Photographic Style

If you want a specific style of photography, you should hire a professional photographer whose style matches yours. If you want to ask an amateur photographer, the chances are that theyíre not familiar with the differences between traditional, contemporary, fine art, or photojournalistic styles.

Are you willing to gamble that theyíre able to produce the pictures that you will treasure? Often, this is not the case. Take some time to consider the photography styles you want to make sure that the wedding photographer you hire is in sync with you. Once you have in mind what you want to achieve, hire a professional who gets it.

Reliability and Communication

There are many more reasons that a professional photographer is a better choice than using a relative or enthusiast. You shouldnít underestimate the wealth of experience the professional brings in dealing with the various challenges of the big day.

A professional wedding photographer will have the communication skills to organise groups, move people and find out exactly what you want throughout the day. They will have a smooth touch, using body language, cues and verbal commands to get things done while keeping the positive atmosphere of your big day in St-Johns. An amateur photographer, no matter how much effort they put in, will not be able to maintain a balance between the necessary distance, humour, intimacy and support while still getting the perfect shots.

If You Want More, Use Professional Wedding Photographers

Of all the people around you on your wedding day, your wedding photographer will probably be with you most. The wedding photographer will take the initial shots during the day as you get ready and even travel to the church and will stay with you throughout the day and maybe until you leave for home or honeymoon.

From the start of the day to the end of the day, your wedding photographer will be around you, capturing every special moment without intruding on your day. The best wedding photographers are practically invisible, until you need a photo taken. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.

They are there to help you get the best pictures and will try and fix anything that is in the way of that goal. Your wedding planner will spend far less time with you during the day in St-Johns than your photographer will. The experience of the photographer will help to ensure that the wedding party know where they are going and when and help to alleviate any anxiety or emotions as they arise.

Patience

As a wedding couple, you should engage the services of a wedding photographer that helps you feel comfortable. This is a person you are going to be around a great deal on one of the most special days of your life. You want to be happy that you made the right decision.

The professional photographer must have a great deal of patience, empathy, technical skill and great communication skills. With the camera, they need to ensure that you and your personality shines through on your wedding day in St-Johns. An experienced professional will recognise that things rarely go exactly according to plan and will remain calm and effective throughout. The best wedding photographers flow with the event, are flexible and adaptable with the images they capture, whilst always maintaining professional standards.

Hiring a Wedding Photographer and What to Expect?

For a lot of wedding couples, their wedding day is the first time a professional wedding photographer has their camera lens pointed at them. If you donít like the way you look in photographs, this can prove to be a fairly stressful situation.

Having invested some time to choose the right wedding photographer, you can be assured that they will do certain things to make the process less stressful.

Professional Conduct and Prompt Time Keeping

Professionalism comes naturally if you hire someone based on their reputation and passion. Your wedding photographer should be punctual, personable and on time for your wedding schedule, as well as dressed appropriately. Your photographer should get to your wedding venues earlier than the guests so that they can get a feel for the environment; they will probably have been to some of the venues already in order to understand the limitations and possibilities.

Rehearsals for the Wedding Day

In many cases, church wedding ceremonies have a rehearsal during the week before the wedding. Your wedding photographer may well want to attend this wedding rehearsal to speak to the Vicar about where to stand during the ceremony and to find out more about the venue. With civil ceremonies, the photographers will normally have a discussion with the registrar prior to the wedding starting in St-Johns.

The Wedding

Your photographer will arrive at the agreed time to capture the bridal presentations. He will remain with you for the whole day, without interrupting, obstructing or in any way affecting the flow of the day. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help. Jeff Woodall photography prides itself on its ability to remain unobtrusive but to always be available for questions and to keep spirits high, ensuring that no beautifully precious moment is lost.

At a certain time in the evening, usually after the first dance, your photographer will approach you to see if thereís anything else you would like him to capture. If you are satisfied that your photographer has captured the day, he will begin the process of backing up all of the photos. Jeff Woodall does a full backup of the wedding images, to separate hard drives, which will be kept in a safe place on his photo editing suite, where theyíll remain until all the wedding photographs have been completely edited and delivered to you. We fully understand that your photographs are precious and need to be looked after.

Editing Wedding Photographs

Editing is a large part of the work and will be done in the days following the wedding in St-Johns. At the first stage, all images are checked to select the ones that best tell the story of the day. The selected photographs go through a light touch approach that enhances them subtly.

Jeff Woodall photography provide clients with images that are high resolution. Images are cropped and have their colours balanced where necessary, but is limited to minor adjustments. To achieve other effects, subtle style filters may be applied to some of your wedding images and some may be converted to monochrome.

When the editing process is complete, the photos are exported from the suite of editing tools and the files uploaded to an online password protected gallery for viewing and also uploaded to a USB stick; you can then distribute the photos as you want and share on social media. Sharing your wedding photos is great fun and so we provide you with the USB stick with high definition pictures and instructions of how to give access to your online gallery to friends and family.

After care

At Jeff Woodall photography we will ensure we are accessible to help you find out about bespoke wedding photo books and any wedding albums that you might like. Even if you’ve set your mind to the style and design of your digital photo book album, it can take a bit of time after the wedding day to decide on which photos to include.

In most cases the photo book capacity will be around 80 images. Your photographer then begins the design work to create your stunning album.

Here is a list of things included in a wedding photography package

Read on below to see a list of what is included in a wedding photography package. Some of the items are self-explanatory and take care of themselves, whereas others are very important. Which events you want the photographer at.

You need to decide whether you want the photographer at your engagement party and bridal shower, whether the photographer stays for the after-party and of course what time he arrives at the wedding ceremony. This is the first thing to be discussed and can also be divided into the number of days. This will add up to a certain number of days and is normally the first thing that you need to decide. You need to communicate which events you want captured to get them in the diary.

Number of hours for the shoot in St-Johns

Each assignment a photographer takes is normally broken down into a number of hours. With weddings, we understand that exact timings and schedule are very individual and that they need to go with the flow of your day. We need to be flexible and so we tend to take a different approach to pricing our wedding packages.

Photographers often [I used to] have different packages in St-Johns i.e. ëPlatinumí, ëGoldí, ëSilverí, ëBronzeí, etc. When you start adding extras to these packages it all becomes a bit of a logistical nightmare to understand or work out the overall price. I now offer a full day for a fixed price. Iím not a clock watcher and won’t mind doing an extra hour or so. We donít want to bill you an extra hour or two after the wedding because it didn’t go exactly to schedule and the package you pay for didn’t have enough hours. For wedding ceremonies that are a long way away and need significant travel or even flights, there would be some negotiation required over accommodation, fuel, flights, food and refreshments.

Wedding photography Services List

Below is a summary list of wedding photography services :

A Look at the Differences in Styles

Fine Art Photography

Photographers that concentrate on a fine art style, don’t usually take traditional shots, just as photojournalistic photographers donít. Rather, they photograph with an appreciation for the artistic side of people, the lighting options and the overall drama of the scene. The Fine Art photographer in St-Johns is adept in the use of black and white photography and at producing less candid, beautifully composed photos, full of drama and artistic beauty.

Vintage Style Photography

Vintage style photography has partly evolved as a result of vintage photo filter popularity. More and more weddings are seeing photographers using a vintage photography style. This style of photography can evoke feelings of nostalgia and the old and timeless nature of that style really seems to appeal to people. Vintage photography done well in St-Johns, transforms ordinary images into artistic work of art using colour filters and various props and lighting tricks.

Traditional or Classical

In traditional or classical photography, each moment is captured as if it staged and a portrait, rather than spontaneous and ad hoc as they might seem. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. Traditional photographers are likely to want to record of the formalities of the wedding ceremony and to portray the dignity and meaning of the ceremony, with subtle lighting.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

Photojournalism looks to record moments on camera, rather than orchestrating specific staged shots. With this type of photography, you’ll get the happy shots of guests together during the day, as well as more spontaneous and candid photos; the obligatory group shots and the formal bride and groom photos will of course also be included. Photographers with a photojournalistic style will shy away from orchestrating too many moments during the day, except those formal group shots, or bride and groom images they need to take. They prefer to record close-ups of the bride, groom and wedding guests and really document the dayís actual emotions and feelings.

Black and White (Monochrome)

This style is excellent for timeless, classical, emotion-packed photographs. Colour images are preferred by some clients, while some appreciate how the mood of their photos can be enhanced by the desaturation of colours. You need to decide what you like. Some people really don’t like monochrome images, but black and white photographs can tend to enhance the feeling of atmosphere when done well, helping to focus attention on the subjects of the images. Sometimes colour can fail to portray the atmosphere of a photo, where monochrome techniques can really bring it to life.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

When shooting photographs and using this photo technique, each shot is rather complex with lots of elements to consider and the editing process is equally detailed. If you like photographs that are enhanced with that occasional pop of colour, or dramatic high dynamic range, your photographer will have the skill to choose the right scenes sparingly, to professionally execute the shot and to skillfully edit to produce stunning results.
