Why engage a wedding photographer for your big day?

You’ve probably got most of the planning done already if your wedding is fast approaching. You’ve planned the catering side of things, chosen the cake and booked the venue. You’ve picked your wedding gown, the centrepieces and the flowers.

You now intend to plan the best way to ensure that the photographs do complete justice to your special day. Perhaps you are considering the option of asking a relative to bring their amateur photography skills to your wedding.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. This is definitely a path you should avoid.

You should hire a professional wedding photographer

The benefits you get when you hire a photographer with significant experience of weddings are much greater than the monetary savings you’ll make when you get the photos taken for free. Remember, the glances, the smiles and the connections that happen at a wedding are subtle and to capture them photographically is a skill.

Some of the key benefits of professional wedding photography

Having hired a professional wedding photographer in Pease-Pottage, you are assured of the highest quality images, created and edited using the best expertise, cameras and photo editing software.

When you hire professional photographers for your wedding in Pease-Pottage, you get privileged access to the best photography knowledge and skills, together with the best equipment and software to produce the best quality pictures possible.

The equipment that wedding photographers use goes far beyond the camera, which is only a part of what it takes to achieve the quality photography you need at your wedding. Camera phones are pretty amazing these days and many people are tempted to try and save money by using them for their wedding photos. Many have found this to be a big mistake. Everyone desires photographs that are skillfully composed and expertly captured for their wedding day. Let me explain a bit more about how a wedding photographer in Pease-Pottage can add value to your photos and why it’s worth paying for them.

Knowledge with the latest camera equipment and the use of it in varying situations. A photographer won’t be able to do the best job possible if they don’t have the lighting options or lenses they need, or the skill to use them. Professional wedding photographers are better, not just because of their skill and experience, but also the equipment that they use. Experienced professionals can get the most out of a DSLR camera due to their experience and skill, although anyone can take a picture with one. Both the camera equipment and the photographer are equally important in creating and capturing great photos. What you need to get the best wedding photography experience is high end, appropriate camera equipment and a seasoned wedding photography professional who knows how to use it to its full potential. This includes choosing the right equipment and camera settings for indoor and outdoor shots at the venue and the changing conditions at both.

The Role the Photographer Plays

When you hire a professional wedding photographer in Pease-Pottage, you can expect their full attention, whereas with a friend or family member theyíre far more likely to become distracted. When you pay a professional photographer, theyíre there to do a job, whereas a family member is more likely to be looking to enjoy the celebrations.

A photographer wonít be off-duty, drinking alcohol or eating cake when they should be capturing an important shot. Theyíll be concentrating on the job in hand, candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.

Wedding shoots also tend to go much better when guests are engaging with paid, professional photographers. Photoshoots taken by a relative tend to be less organised and taken less seriously than those arranged by professionals.

Skill with Different Styles of Photography

If you are looking for photography that captures a certain style, then you should hire a photographer that is proficient in that style. If you asked the majority of amateur photographers what the difference is between fine art, contemporary, traditional or photojournalistic photography styles, most wouldnít have a clue.

Can an amateur really deliver the pictures that are going to inspire you forever? Often, they wonít be able to. Donít rush into a decision; think about the style you want and get a photographer that can match it. Once you have in mind what you want to achieve, hire a professional who gets it.

Communication Skills and Timeliness

A professional photographer really is a better choice than going for an amateur relative or enthusiast friend in most cases and there are lots of other reasons why. You shouldnít underestimate the wealth of experience the professional brings in dealing with the various challenges of the big day.

A professional will be able to carry the wedding party along and subtly communicate where your guests need to be. They will have a smooth touch, using body language, cues and verbal commands to get things done while keeping the positive atmosphere of your big day in Pease-Pottage. Maintaining a balance between holding a distance as a photographer but getting involved to encourage people is a very difficult balance to strike and very few amateurs have the experience to do it.

You Get More with Professional Wedding Photographers

Thereís no person youíll be spending more time with on your wedding day than your photographer. From the shots of you getting ready and preparing to go to church all the way to the moment you leave the wedding venue, the photographer is there.

Your wedding photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. If a photographer knows what theyíre doing, they wonít be noticed throughout the day. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.

By fixing any little issues they can help you get better images. Your wedding planner will have lots of other things to do and wonít shadow you all day in Pease-Pottage, not like your photographer will. The photographer will help the wedding party be where they need to be, when they need to be and to be as calm as they should be.

A Patient Temperament

Itís really important that you hire a wedding photographer that puts you at ease. This is a person you are going to be around a great deal on one of the most special days of your life. You want to be happy that you made the right decision.

The professional photographer will have to be technically skilled, with an added mix of patience, experience and understanding. They need to flow with you and help the lens to capture your personality at its best throughout your special day in Pease-Pottage. Rarely does a wedding go exactly to plan and a wedding photographer should always remain calm and in control throughout the day. A good wedding photographer will remain professional at all times and will be flexible, flowing and adapting to changing circumstances.

What to Expect When You Hire a Wedding Photographer?

For most people, the wedding day will be the first time they find themselves in front of a professional photographerís camera lens. This can cause anxiety, especially if you are camera shy or tend to look awkward in photographs.

Having invested some time to choose the right wedding photographer, you can be assured that they will do certain things to make the process less stressful.

Do you need a quality, friendly and relaxed professional photographer for your Wedding? Give me call today.

A Professional Attitude and Good Time Keeping

If you hire people for the right reasons, such as their passion, reputation and having looked at their work, professionalism will be a given. Your photographer should be friendly, polite, punctual and appropriately dressed for the event. Your photographer should arrive early on the day, to scout the location having probably visited relevant locations several times already.

The Wedding Rehearsal on the Day Before the Wedding

In many cases, church wedding ceremonies have a rehearsal during the week before the wedding. Your photographer may want to attend this to check the location and to have a brief discussion with the Vicar about where to stand during the service. The registrar will normally be consulted on the day of the wedding with civil ceremonies, in order for the wedding photographer to get the information they need.

The Big Day – the Wedding

The bridal presentations will be captured by your photographer, he will arrive as agreed. You will have his undivided attention for the whole day, but without interrupting in any way. Jeff Woodall photographyís ethos is to be very subtle, at staying in the background without interrupting the day, but being available to keep spirits high and answer any difficult questions, making sure that every single memory is captured in digital format. Jeff Woodall photography prides itself on its ability to remain unobtrusive but to always be available for questions and to keep spirits high, ensuring that no beautifully precious moment is lost.

At some point in the night, often after the first dance, your wedding photographer will check with you to find out if thereís anything else you would like to be pictured. The photographer will start to backup the photos if you are happy that they have captured all the moments you need. Jeff Woodall does a full backup of the wedding images, to separate hard drives, which will be kept in a safe place on his photo editing suite, where theyíll remain until all the wedding photographs have been completely edited and delivered to you. We never underestimate the value of your photographs.

The Editing of Wedding Photographs

In the days after the wedding in Pease-Pottage the important editing stage is completed. The first step is to select the best images that tell the story of your wedding. The pictures that have been chosen, then go through a subtle editing approach, with light touches to enhance the images.

The images that are captured by Jeff Woodall photography are always crisp and sharp. Some editing work is carried out as required, mainly consisting of colour balancing and cropping where necessary. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.

Once through the editing process, the images are exported to both USB and an online password protected gallery, for viewing by everyone that you want to give access. If you want to share access to your wedding photos on your own online gallery, weíll give you instructions on how to do so, as well as providing a high-definition backup of all your photos on a USB stick.

Here to help after event

Jeff Woodall photography will be available for everything else you need; to talk about albums, or the types of bespoke wedding photo books that can be designed for you. If you have already decided on a digital photo book album and know the style choices you want to go for, it’ll probably still take you a little while after the wedding to decide on which images to include.

Typically the photographer will ask you to choose 80 or so images. The design process will then begin, as your photographer works on the album.

How many hours of shooting in Pease-Pottage

Generally, each assignment the photographer takes will be priced up largely based on the anticipated hours it will take. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.

I used to offer a variety of wedding packages in Pease-Pottage, just as many photographers still do, such as ëPlatinumí, ëGoldí, ëSilverí and ëBronzeí. When you start adding extras to these packages it all becomes a bit of a logistical nightmare to understand or work out the overall price. With me you get a full day’s coverage for a set price. I understand that there may be an extra hour here or there due to delays etc. We donít want to bill you an extra hour or two after the wedding because it didn’t go exactly to schedule and the package you pay for didn’t have enough hours. For wedding ceremonies that involves travelling, the travel expenses for flights, fuel, food, refreshments and accommodation would need to be subject to negotiation with the client.

Wedding photography Services List

Below is a summary list of wedding photography services :

What are the differences between all these different styles?

Fine Art Photography

Photojournalistic specialists and fine art photographers donít normally tend to shoot many purely traditional images. Rather, they photograph with an appreciation for the artistic side of people, the lighting options and the overall drama of the scene. The Fine Art photographer in Pease-Pottage prefers to pack their photos with art and drama, often using black and white as a filter.

Vintage Style Photography

This style of photography was borne partly from the popularity of vintage photo filters. More and more weddings are seeing photographers using a vintage photography style. This style of photography can evoke feelings of nostalgia and the old and timeless nature of that style really seems to appeal to people. Vintage photography done well in Pease-Pottage, transforms ordinary images into artistic work of art using colour filters and various props and lighting tricks.

Traditional or Classical

With traditional or classical photography, nearly every picture is considered to be a posed portrait, even those moments that may appear to be more spontaneous. With traditional or classical wedding photography, it’s unlikely that you’ll get lots of action and movement in photos, but the images shouldnít feel unnaturally forced either. The wedding ceremony will be captured with the aim of taking pictures that are artistic and functional, but perhaps driven less by drama or emotion.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

Photojournalism photography focuses on the actual moments that happen, rather than staging them. With this type of photography, you’ll get the happy shots of guests together during the day, as well as more spontaneous and candid photos; the obligatory group shots and the formal bride and groom photos will of course also be included. The photojournalistic wedding photographer tells the story of the day, using a mix of close-up and candid shots, showing spontaneous reaction and recording the atmosphere of the event , rather than orchestrating the scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

This can be an effective way to present classic, timeless images. Black-and-white photos are appreciated by many for their ability to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the scene being depicted. Everyone has a different preference. Not everyone prefers monochrome images, but there’s no doubt that photographs can be made more compelling by emphasising areas of focus and the composition with this method. The extra contrast of black and monochrome images can really evoke a certain atmosphere that colour sometimes simply cannot.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

This aspect of photography employs techniques that require attention to detail in both the shooting, as well as the final processing. The users of HDR and colour popped photography techniques, carefully choose the scenes they shoot in order to create images that are striking, with vibrant colours which draw the viewersí attention to a particular area of the image.
