The benefits of having an expert wedding photographer

The photography equipment and software that a professional wedding photographer you hire in Sayers-Common will use will ensure that you get the best quality images possible.

The professional wedding photographer you hire in Sayers-Common will be able to capture fantastic images with their skill, state-of-the-art cameras and equipment and edited to a superb standard using the latest software.

The physical equipment such as cameras, is just part of the equation in terms of capturing the best photographic images. The quality of the cameras on smartphones these days makes it very tempting to turn to them for wedding photography. Many have found this to be a big mistake. Every wedding day deserves photographs that are captured skillfully, in the style of your choosing. Let’s take a look at some of the main benefits of having a professional in Sayers-Common with professional photography equipment, so that you can understand what you are actually paying for with a professional wedding photographer.

A detailed knowledge of their camera equipment and how to deal with variable lighting conditions. A wedding photographer will not be able to produce fantastic pictures in all conditions if they don’t have the lenses for the situation, the lighting options, or don’t have the skill to use them. A professional wedding photographer is preferred because of their skill, expertise and also the equipment they use. DSLR cameras are accessible to most amateurs, but their full potential is only really realised in the hands of experienced pros. Both the camera equipment and the photographer are equally important in creating and capturing great photos. The ideal situation is that you have an expert photographer who can use top of the range equipment to its full potential. This includes various photographic lighting options, which might be necessary depending on the degree of ambient light available due to the weather conditions or the available light at the chosen venues.

The Role the Photographer Plays

Another very good reason to engage the services of a professional wedding photographer in Sayers-Common is that theyíre going to be far less likely to become distracted than a family member or relative charged with capturing the dayís event. A relative will likely expect to enjoy the day and become part of it, whereas a professional photographer will know that their role is very clearly defined.

They wonít miss important shots while eating a slice of cake, drinking alcohol or chit chatting with relatives. Every moment theyíre there, their focus will be on unobtrusively capturing the best possible images that they can of the event.

Another thing to bear in mind is that wedding guests tend to respond to photoshoots better when they are being arranged by professional wedding photographers. Photoshoots taken by a relative tend to be less organised and taken less seriously than those arranged by professionals.

The Photography Style

If you have in mind a particular photographic style, then you should hire a professional that is an expert in that area or style. The majority of amateur photographers would stare blankly if asked to tell you the difference between photojournalistic, traditional, fine art, or contemporary photographic styles.

Are you willing to gamble that theyíre able to produce the pictures that you will treasure? Often, they wonít be able to. Take some time to consider the photography styles you want to make sure that the wedding photographer you hire is in sync with you. Make sure that you hire a wedding photographer who can quickly comprehend exactly what it is you want to achieve.

A Reliable and Communicative Professional

There are numerous other factors that contribute to a professional photographer being a better choice than an amateur photographer or enthusiast. Itís easy to understate how a professional photographer can contribute to the day; blending into the background when necessary and getting involved to smooth the schedule and push things along when time is getting tight.

A professional will be able to carry the wedding party along and subtly communicate where your guests need to be. They will be able to use signals and body language, as well as their voice, to get people where they need to be in a pleasant way, enhancing the atmosphere of your celebration in Sayers-Common. Maintaining a balance between holding a distance as a photographer but getting involved to encourage people is a very difficult balance to strike and very few amateurs have the experience to do it.

If You Want More, Use Professional Wedding Photographers

There arenít many people that you will spend more time on your wedding day than your wedding photographer. They will photograph you getting ready and spending time before the event and perhaps be around all the way until you leave the venue.

You wedding photographer has been hired to capture every special moment of the day, whilst staying in the background unnoticed and will do that from start to end. If a photographer knows what theyíre doing, they wonít be noticed throughout the day. Your photographer will notice if there are untucked shirts or jackets missing in photos, as they will have a keen eye for every detail.

They are there to help you get the best pictures and will try and fix anything that is in the way of that goal. Your wedding planner will spend far less time with you during the day in Sayers-Common than your photographer will. The experience of the photographer will help to ensure that the wedding party know where they are going and when and help to alleviate any anxiety or emotions as they arise.

A Patient Demeanor

As a wedding couple, you should engage the services of a wedding photographer that helps you feel comfortable. Considering the amount of time this individual is going to be a major part of your wedding day, you need to choose wisely. You donít want to spend all that time second-guessing your decision.

The professional photographer should have an incredible amount of patience, but also a good deal of empathy and subtle powers of persuasion. Your personality needs to be captured through the lens and itís their job to help you to be at ease throughout the day in Sayers-Common. Even if things donít go exactly to plan, the wedding photographer will remain in control, calm and measured, as a reassuring presence. An experienced wedding photographer will flow with the event and will be quick to adapt, always remaining professional.

What to Expect When You Hire a Wedding Photographer?

In many cases the day of the wedding is the first time people are in front of a professionalís camera. As well as being anxious about the big day, having a camera pointed at you all day can make you feel even more uncomfortable, especially if you feel that photos donít generally flatter you.

If you have spent a bit of time selecting the right wedding photographer for you, the photographer in Sayers-Common will do a few things in order to make the process better.

Professional Conduct and Prompt Time Keeping

Professionalism will shine through during your research into a photographer, while checking out their reputation, their enthusiasm for photography and their portfolio itself. Your photographer should be friendly, polite, punctual and appropriately dressed for the event. By arriving early your wedding photographer will be able to scout the location and choose some excellent vantage points, although they will probably have visited your key event locations prior to the big day.

The Day Before the Wedding - the Rehearsal

Church weddings tend to have a rehearsal date within a week of the main event. The wedding photographer ask to come to the wedding day rehearsal to scout the location and to find out from the Vicar where they should be standing throughout the service. This discussion normally happens on the day of the wedding in Sayers-Common, with the registrar, in the case of a civil ceremony.

Wedding Day (The big day)

Your wedding photographer will normally arrive to capture the bridal presentations, at a pre agreed time. He wonít interrupt at any point during the day but will be with you throughout. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help. Itís crucial to the team at Jeff Woodall photography that every precious memory is captured on camera and that we remain unobtrusive, so the day can play out naturally; we are of course available for any questions and we strive to raise the spirits of everyone in the party.

Sometime after the first dance, your wedding photographer will have a conversation with you to find out whether there are any more pictures that you would like taken. If you decide to call it a day, the photographer will start their backup process. Every photo will be stored on a reliable backup storage device and kept safe until such a time as the photos have been through the full editing process and have been delivered to you to your satisfaction. We treat your photographs as the precious digital data that they are.

The Wedding Photo Editing Stage

Editing is a crucial stage in the wedding photography process and will be completed within the days that follow the event in Sayers-Common. The photographs need to tell the story of the wedding day and so the first stage is going through all the pictures and selecting the best ones. The pictures that have been chosen, then go through a subtle editing approach, with light touches to enhance the images.

The images provided to clients by Jeff Woodall photography are always high resolution. During post processing, the images undergo some minor editing. They are colour balanced and cropped. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.

The pictures are then prepared and uploaded for viewing, by anyone you want to give access in an online password protected Gallery. They are also provided to you on a presentation USB stick. Weíll provide you with all the instructions you need for how to access the online gallery and how to share it with your family and friends and we’ll also send you the USB stick with easy to use instructions on how to share your photos online.

Here to help after event

Jeff Woodall photography will always be on hand, accessible to talk about wedding photo album options and the design of wedding photo books if you so require them. It can take some time after the wedding ceremony to decide on which pictures to include in your digital photo book album, even if you have already decided on colours, styles and designs.

Your photographer will guide you through how many photos to choose and how best to tell the story and we’ll probably suggest around 80 photos. The design of the album is then carried out by your photographer.

How many hours of shooting in Sayers-Common

Generally, a photographer will use time as one of the main methods to price an assignment. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.

Photographers often [I used to] have different packages in Sayers-Common i.e. ëPlatinumí, ëGoldí, ëSilverí, ëBronzeí, etc. This way of doing things can get over complicated and even more so when additional options and extras are added to the mix. I now prefer to work on a fixed price for the full day’s coverage. I won’t question doing an extra hour here or there. We understand that things can run a little off schedule and don’t want you to be billed for an extra hour here or there if a ëSilverí or ëGoldí package, didn’t cover the hours to fully record your event. For wedding ceremonies that are a long way away and need significant travel or even flights, there would be some negotiation required over accommodation, fuel, flights, food and refreshments.

Different Styles and How They’re Different

Fine Art Photography

Similar to photojournalistic photography, fine art photographers rarely take traditional shots. Events, people and elements are photographed with a more artistic approach, with the use of various lighting techniques. Typically, a fine art photographer in Sayers-Common is highly skilled at creating and staging photos that are artistic and beautifully full of drama, applying filters to photos during editing, including often using monochrome conversions.

Vintage Style Photography

Vintage photography is a style that has evolved and become increasingly more popular of late, helped by the emergence of vintage style filters. The number of wedding couples that choose to have vintage wedding photography has grown fast. Something about old, timeless photographs appeals to people, maybe itís the feeling of nostalgia which this style of photography evokes. Through the use of various methods, such as colour filters used in this style, professional photographers are able to transform pretty standard looking images into works of art.

Traditional or Classical

In traditional or classical photography, many shots are treated as a posed portraits, sometimes including shots you may think of as candid. This won’t make the photograph appear forced or posed, but it’s likely that few spontaneous ëaction shotsí will be included in the mix. The wedding ceremony will be captured with the aim of taking pictures that are artistic and functional, but perhaps driven less by drama or emotion.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

This style involves the recording of events as opposed to the staging of them. The formal shots you would expect at every wedding, will be captured, as well as group and individual ëgrip and griní wedding guest shots. The photo journalistic photographer is all about immortalizing the spontaneous reactions and emotions of the day as they happen, rather than orchestrating and staging their images.

Black and White (Monochrome)

This style is excellent for timeless, classical, emotion-packed photographs. Although many people prefer colour images, others appreciate how removing that colour and by the skillfully use of post processing techniques, really create pictures that are packed with atmosphere. Preference is what matters here. Not everyone prefers monochrome images, but there’s no doubt that photographs can be made more compelling by emphasising areas of focus and the composition with this method. Black and white images can be effective in portraying an atmospheric, or nostalgic and timeless feel, that is sometimes elusive in the colour version.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

This area of photography requires skill in techniques that involve shooting with a lot of attention to detail and the post processing becomes a little more complex too. The photographer chooses the appropriate moment with which to use these techniques, finally skillfully uses the right processing software to produce quality images with colours that pop and emphasises particular areas of a scene.
