Weddings are some of the most special events of our lives. Finding a professional photographer with the skills to capture every small detail is important.
Why the Wedding Photography Is Vital
When planning your wedding event, finding time to hire a photographer may initially be pretty low on your priority list.
However, so many couples leave it so late to arrange, that their chosen wedding photographer, is ultimately unavailable for their big day.
The photos of your wedding will rekindle memories as you look through them over and over again. After your wedding day in Littlehampton, you’re probably unlikely to wear your dress and shoes again, the flowers and cake will be gone, but your wedding images will be with you forever, to browse through and perfectly recapture those emotions from your special day.

The Role of a Wedding Photographer
A professional wedding photographer in Littlehampton is far less likely to be distracted by situations arising during the day, than a family member or relative. A relative will likely expect to enjoy the day and become part of it, whereas a professional photographer will know that their role is very clearly defined.
They won’t miss that precious moment whilst chatting with wedding guests, having a beer or grabbing a slice of cake.
They’ll be concentrating on the job in hand, often candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.
The Style of the Photography
Are you a fan of traditional wedding photography, or perhaps lean more towards that candid – documentary / photo journalistic style?
I typically employ both and am more than happy for you to point me in either direction.
Professional Wedding Photographers Provide More
You spend more time with your wedding photographer than anyone else on your wedding day. The wedding photographer will take the initial shots during the day as you get ready and even travel to the church and will stay with you throughout the day and maybe until you leave for home or honeymoon.
Your wedding photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. If they know what they’re doing, you won’t even notice them. Your photographer will ensure everything is just as it should be, by noticing the small things like wonky ties, or untucked shirts.
By fixing any little issues they can help you get better images. Your wedding planner will have lots of other things to do and won’t shadow you all day, not like your photographer will. The experience of the photographer will help to ensure that the wedding party know where they are going and when and help to alleviate any anxiety or emotions as they arise.
A Patient Demeanor
As a wedding couple, you should engage the services of a wedding photographer that helps you feel comfortable. This is a person you are going to be around a great deal on one of the most special days of your life. You want to be happy that you made the right decision.
The professional photographer you choose should have an excellent skill set; great technically, the patience of a saint, the persuasive skills of a sales person and the empathetic and emotional skills of a counsellor. They need to go with the flow and be able to make your personality shine brightly on your special day in Littlehampton. Rarely does a wedding go exactly to plan and a wedding photographer should always remain calm and in control throughout the day. An expert wedding photographer will adapt to the needs of the day and remain professional at all times.
Your Wedding Photographer and What to Expect?
Often people have never been in front of a professional camera before their wedding day. If you don’t like the way you look in photographs, this can prove to be a fairly stressful situation.
If you have spent a bit of time selecting the right wedding photographer for you, the photographer will do a few things in order to make the process better.
A Professional Attitude and Good Time Keeping
Professionalism comes naturally if you hire someone based on their reputation and passion. It’s important that the wedding photographer you choose gets there on time, has a great attitude and gets on with people. By arriving early your wedding photographer will be able to scout the location and choose some excellent vantage points, although they will probably have visited your key event locations prior to the big day.
The Big Wedding Day
Your wedding photographer will tend to arrive to take photos of the bridal presentations, the timings will have been agreed. He will be there for the rest of the day but will not interrupt the flow in any way. Jeff Woodall photography will be poised to capture all of the beautiful moments through the day, without intruding in any way.
At some point in the night, often after the first dance, your wedding photographer will check with you to find out if there is anything else you would like to be pictured. The backing up process will begin if you are happy for your photographer to call it a day. Jeff Woodall photography backs up all wedding pictures captured on the day to separate hard drives and cloud storage, then keeps them safe in a permanent backup until the end of the editing stage and provided to you. We fully understand that your photographs are precious and need to be looked after.
Wedding Photo Editing
In the days after the wedding, the important editing stage is completed. The first step is to select the best images that tell the story of your wedding. Every selected photograph is edited using a light touch approach with only a few subtle edits.
The images that Jeff Woodall photography produce are always beautifully sharp. During post processing, the images undergo some minor editing. They are colour balanced and cropped. Style filters may be applied to some of your wedding images to create a specific look and some will be converted to black and white.
The images are then exported and uploaded to an online password protected gallery, ready to be viewed by you, your friends and family as you wish. You will also be given all high resolution images on a USB stick. Instructions on how to access the gallery which you can share with friends and family will be sent to you along with a USB stick containing high resolution images that you can easily share online.
Client support - follow-up
At Jeff Woodall photography we will ensure we are accessible to help you find out about bespoke wedding photo books and any wedding albums that you might like. Early on you’ll probably decide if you want a digital photo book album and the different colours and styles that you will require, but it’ll probably take you a while after your wedding ceremony to decide which of the images you are going to want to include.
Typically the photographer will ask you to choose 80 or so images. The design of the album is then carried out by your photographer.
What is included in a wedding photography package?
The shoot duration in Littlehampton
Typically, a photographer will work out pricing based on the number of hours they need to put into any assignment. At Jeff Woodall photography this is normally the way we price up events and portraits, but with weddings the process has been simplified because we understand that each day is completely different, timings are personal and we need to be flexible to capture the flow of your wedding events.
You are probably familiar with photographers offering Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze wedding packages etc. It all gets quite complicated, especially if different photo album packages are also added to the mix. I find it works better to have a set price for a full day’s coverage. Obviously, this is within reason, but I tend to arrive well early to get shots of getting ready and to remain long after the first dance, because there is still additional photographic value to be had. We don’t want to bill you an extra hour or two after the wedding because it didn’t go exactly to schedule and the package you paid for didn’t have enough hours. In cases where weddings are overseas, or in remote locations, there would need to be some negotiation regarding fuel or flights, food and accommodation – but my expenses are always very reasonable.
Traditional or Classical
In traditional or classical photography, many shots are treated as a posed portraits, sometimes including shots you may think of as candid. With this style of photography, you are likely to get more static images than spontaneous flowing, action shots, although the images you get won’t feel overly staged. The wedding ceremony will be captured with the aim of taking pictures that are artistic and functional, but perhaps driven less by drama or emotion.
Photojournalistic or Reportage
This style involves the recording of events as opposed to the staging of them. Group shots will be taken as required, as well as candid and spontaneous images. There are few formal shots of guests smiling at the camera lens. The photo journalistic photographer tends not to orchestrate moments and poses but would rather look to capture candid shots and the genuinely spontaneous action and close up reactions of the guests and the wedding couple.
