Why you should hire a pro-photographer for your wedding day.

If your wedding day is just around the corner, then you have probably planned most of what you need to plan. The venue is all booked and planned, the cake is being made and your catering is sorted. You have chosen your wedding theme colours, selected your flowers and your wedding gown is hung up and ready to go.

You are now thinking about capturing the precious memories of your big day as photographic images. Your uncle is a good amateur photographer and perhaps you’re considering asking him.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. This is definitely a path you should avoid.

A professional wedding photographer is likely to achieve a much higher quality result

The benefits you get when you hire a photographer with significant experience of weddings are much greater than the monetary savings you’ll make when you get the photos taken for free. Remember, the glances, the smiles and the connections that happen at a wedding are subtle and to capture them photographically is a skill.

The benefits of having a professional wedding photographer

The cameras are just part of the equation when it comes to taking fantastic photographs. The quality of the cameras on smartphones these days makes it very tempting to turn to them for wedding photography. This might be a huge mistake. Every wedding day deserves photographs that are captured skillfully, in the style of your choosing. Let’s take a look at some of the main benefits of having a professional with professional photography equipment, so that you can understand what you are actually paying for with a professional wedding photographer.

Camera equipment expertise, as well as being able to deal with indoor and outdoor lighting. A photographerís resultant images will not be as impressive as they could be if they don’t have a variety of camera lenses and the knowledge and skills to use them, together with various lighting options. A professional wedding photographer is preferred because of their skill, expertise and also the equipment they use. A DSLR camera can be purchased by anyone almost certainly, but the full potential of this camera can only be unlocked by experienced professionals. The skill of the person taking the photos is highly important, but they also need the right equipment to produce top results. In order to get your dream photos, you need high end camera equipment and a wedding photographer with the experience, talent and knowledge to use it appropriately to its full potential. This includes choosing the right equipment and camera settings for indoor and outdoor shots at the venue and the changing conditions at both.

The Role the Photographer Plays

One other very good reason to hire a professional wedding photographer in Cuckfield, instead of using a relative, is that they’re less likely to become distracted. A professional photographer wonít be looking to get involved with the celebrations like a family member would.

They wonít miss that precious moment whilst chatting with wedding guests, having a beer or grabbing a slice of cake. They will be fully concentrating on the job, taking every opportunity to capture the special moments of your wedding day, whilst keeping it very low key.

Wedding guests are also far more likely to respond to a professional, paid wedding photographer than they would be to a relative barking orders. When family members organise a photo session, or an ad hoc photo opportunity, there is a different dynamic to when a photographer sets up a professional shoot.

Diverse Styles of Photography

In order to attain photos with a specific style, you need to engage a professional wedding photographer with the style to match. If you asked the majority of amateur photographers what the difference is between fine art, contemporary, traditional or photojournalistic photography styles, most wouldnít have a clue.

Can an amateur photographer capture photos the way you want them? In many cases, they will not have the skills to do so. Have a long think about this and make sure your wedding photographerís style is in sync with yours. Once you have in mind what you want to achieve, hire a professional who gets it.

Reliability and Communication

There are many more reasons that a professional photographer is a better choice than using a relative or enthusiast. Any wedding day has tough moments to overcome, whether it is getting a large group together while meeting a deadline with a photoshoot in session and a professional brings a mass of experience to help deal with this.

A professional wedding photographer will get people where they need to be for each photo and plan all the photo sessions to ensure no one gets missed out, or no opportunity is missed. They have the experience to do so using body language, cues and verbally, without obstructing your guests, or spoiling the celebration of your big day. Amateur photographers, no matter how hard they try, will find it hard to identify the right approach to photo sessions, being distant to a degree, professional, humorous, encouraging and supporting guests through the process, in order to capture those memorable shots.

Expert Wedding Photographers Give You more

Thereís no person youíll be spending more time with on your wedding day than your photographer. The wedding photographer will take the initial shots during the day as you get ready and even travel to the church and will stay with you throughout the day and maybe until you leave for home or honeymoon.

From the start of the day to the end of the day, your wedding photographer will be around you, capturing every special moment without intruding on your day. If they know what theyíre doing, you wonít even notice them. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.

Their detailed focus will help you fix any little issues and get better photos. Your wedding planner will have lots of other things to do and won’t shadow you all day, not like your photographer will. The experience of the photographer will help to ensure that the wedding party know where they are going and when and help to alleviate any anxiety or emotions as they arise.

Patience

Itís really important that you hire a wedding photographer that puts you at ease. This is a person you are going to be around a great deal on one of the most special days of your life. The person you have decided on needs to be the right one.

The photographer should have a great mix of patience, empathy and skills of persuasion, as well as technically superb. They need to go with the flow and be able to make your personality shine brightly on your special day in Cuckfield. Even if things don’t go exactly to plan, the wedding photographer will remain in control, calm and measured, as a reassuring presence. An experienced wedding photographer will flow with the event and will be quick to adapt, always remaining professional.

What to Expect from Your Wedding Photographer?

Often people have never been in front of a professional camera before their wedding day. If you donít like the way you look in photographs, this can prove to be a fairly stressful situation.

If you have spent a bit of time selecting the right wedding photographer for you, the photographer will do a few things in order to make the process better.

Good Time Keeping and Professional Standards

You can be reassured that the photographer will be professional by researching their reputation, their previous work and their passion for what they do. Your wedding photographer should remain polite and courteous at all times, demonstrating a great attitude, good time keeping for every aspect of the schedule and remaining suitably attired throughout the day. Your wedding photographer should get there ahead of schedule to take a look around and find their vantage points for the day.

Rehearsals for the Wedding Day

It is customary for church wedding ceremonies to have a rehearsal a few days before the big day. The wedding photographer ask to come to the wedding day rehearsal to scout the location and to find out from the Vicar where they should be standing throughout the service. If you choose to have a civil ceremony, then it will most likely be a chat with a registrar on the day of the wedding in Cuckfield.

The Day Arrives – the Wedding

Your photographer will be there to take pictures of bridal presentations, or at whatever time you have agreed beforehand. He will be there for the rest of the day but will not interrupt the flow in any way. Jeff Woodall photography prides itself on its ability to remain unobtrusive but to always be available for questions and to keep spirits high, ensuring that no beautifully precious moment is lost. Jeff Woodall photography will be poised to capture all of the beautiful moments through the day, without intruding in any way.

Sometime after the first dance, your wedding photographer will have a conversation with you to find out whether there are any more pictures that you would like taken. The photographer will start to backup the photos if you are happy that they have captured all the moments you need. Every photo will be stored on a reliable backup storage device and kept safe until such a time as the photos have been through the full editing process and have been delivered to you to your satisfaction. We understand just how precious your photographs are to you.

Wedding Photo Editing

Editing is a large part of the work and will be done in the days following the wedding. The photographs need to tell the story of the wedding day and so the first stage is going through all the pictures and selecting the best ones. The pictures that have been chosen, then go through a subtle editing approach, with light touches to enhance the images.

The images that are captured by Jeff Woodall photography are always crisp and sharp. During post processing, the images undergo some minor editing. They are colour balanced and cropped. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.

Once through the editing process, the images are exported to both USB and an online password protected gallery, for viewing by everyone that you want to give access. Sharing your wedding photos is great fun and so we provide you with the USB stick with high definition pictures and instructions of how to give access to your online gallery to friends and family.

Client support - follow-up

We know that you may want to put your photos in wedding photo books or maybe looking for a special wedding album and Jeff Woodall photography will be available to discuss how best to present your images after the wedding. You probably have decided beforehand whether you wish to opt for a digital photo book album, the styles and colours etc., but it won’t be a short time after the ceremony that you decide which images you would like it to contain.

You’ll probably be asked to pick your favorite 80 photographs that depict the story of your day and you can ask your photographer any questions to guide you on this. Your photographer will then begin to design the album for you.

Stunning Cuckfield Based Wedding Photography

Here is a list of things included in a wedding photography package

Below is a list of the what is included in a wedding photography package. Some of the details are given, others you may need to pay careful attention to. The number of wedding events you want photos from.

You may want the photographer for the engagement party, the bridal shower, as well as the wedding ceremony and after-party. This is the first thing to be discussed and can also be divided into the number of days. This will add up to a certain number of days and is normally the first thing that you need to decide. You need to communicate the dates and times of events with the photographer.

The shoot duration in Cuckfield

Each assignment a photographer takes is normally broken down into a number of hours. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.

You are probably familiar with photographers offering Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze wedding packages. This way of doing things can get over complicated and even more so when additional options and extras are added to the mix. I now prefer to work on a fixed price for the full day’s coverage. I don’t quibble over the extra hour we were there, due to late starts etc. We know you don’t want to have an extra hour billed after the event, just because your schedule fell behind and the eight hours you paid for in the Silver package didn’t cover the full day. If there is travel involved to the wedding ceremony there would need to be some negotiation over the expenses involved in terms of accommodation, fuel or flights, food and refreshments.

Different Styles and How They’re Different

Fine Art Photography

Fine art photographers normally steer clear of too many traditional shots, in the same way that photojournalistic photographers do. They prefer to take an artistic view and capture elements, events and people with that mindset, always looking for dramatic lighting and backgrounds. Fine Art photographers in Cuckfield have a flair for the dramatic and always looking for the artistic side when composing and staging their photos, often using different filters, including black and white.

Vintage Style Photography

Vintage photography is a style that has evolved and become increasingly more popular of late, helped by the emergence of vintage style filters. More and more couples are choosing vintage wedding photography as their wedding style for their photographs. This style of photography can evoke feelings of nostalgia and the old and timeless nature of that style really seems to appeal to people. Vintage photography done well, transforms ordinary images into artistic work of art using colour filters and various props and lighting tricks.

Traditional or Classical

In traditional or classical photography, many shots are treated as a posed portraits, sometimes including shots you may think of as candid. With traditional or classical wedding photography, it’s unlikely that you’ll get lots of action and movement in photos, but the images shouldn’t feel unnaturally forced either. Traditional photographers are likely to want to record of the formalities of the wedding ceremony and to portray the dignity and meaning of the ceremony, with subtle lighting.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

This style of photography is less about orchestrating and creating moments to capture on camera, than reporting those special moments of the day. The formal shots you would expect at every wedding, will be captured, as well as group and individual wedding guest shots. The photojournalistic wedding photographer tells the story of the day, using a mix of close-up and candid shots, showing spontaneous reaction and recording the atmosphere of the event , rather than orchestrating the scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

Black and White photographs often create a timeless and classic look. Colour images are preferred by some clients, while some appreciate how the mood of their photos can be enhanced by the desaturation of colours. Preference is what matters here. By using monochrome techniques, you can really bring out the essence of the subject of a photograph, although not everyone likes this style. Black and white photographs have the capacity to really enhance the atmosphere of an image, that is sometimes lost in the colour option.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

When shooting pictures, this photography technique requires attention to detail and the ability to consider various different elements and this complexity continues into the editing stage. If you like photographs that are enhanced with that occasional pop of colour, or dramatic high dynamic range, your photographer will have the skill to choose the right scenes sparingly, to professionally execute the shot and to skillfully edit to produce stunning results.
