Main Reasons Wedding Photography Is Important.

When you look at your list of priorities for your wedding, the wedding photographer may not necessarily be up there at the top.

However, it’s well worth bumping up your wedding photos so they are near the top of your list. It needs to be budgeted for and thought of well ahead of your special day in Burgess Hill. There are potentially so many precious moments during any wedding and so you need a wedding photographer who has the talent to both see and capture those moments. That takes a great deal of skill and experience. Your wedding photos and your wedding album will come out in the future with friends, family, children and grandchildren to help you tell the story of the day.

You’ll turn to your wedding photos many times in the future, recapturing the precious memories of that special day. When your wedding day has come and gone, your wedding dress and shoes will be packed away, the flowers will be gone and your wedding cake will be no more. But your wedding photographs will forever be yours to share on social media, look at during those quiet moments and enjoy with your loved ones, so take them seriously and make sure that you commission talented professionals!

Why hire a professional photographer for your wedding?

You’ve probably got most of the planning done already if your wedding is fast approaching. You’ve arranged the venue, chosen your cake and booked a caterer. You have chosen your wedding theme colours, selected your flowers and your wedding gown is hung up and ready to go.

The wedding photographs are next on the list. Your uncle is a good amateur photographer and perhaps you’re considering asking him.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. This is definitely a path you should avoid.

Hiring a professional wedding photographer is the route you should take

The benefits of hiring a professional photographer far outweigh the ultimate cost of having an amateur photographer taking your photos for free! The photos that are taken must capture those special seconds that mean the most to you.

The benefits of having a professional wedding photographer

The photography equipment and software that a professional wedding photographer you hire in Burgess-Hill will use will ensure that you get the best quality images possible.

A professional wedding photographer will be able to take great pictures, using a combination of skill, the latest digital equipment and software, giving you a superb finished product.

The physical equipment such as cameras, is just part of the equation in terms of capturing the best photographic images. The dramatic improvement in camera phones means that it is very tempting to try and save money on your wedding photos. This is a big mistake. Every wedding couple wants the highest quality and most skillfully composed photographs possible, to remember their wedding day by. I’ll explain some of these benefits in greater detail, to help you understand the value in paying a professional wedding photographer for the day.

Knowledge with the latest camera equipment and the use of it in varying situations. A wedding photographer will not be able to produce fantastic pictures in all conditions if they don’t have the lenses for the situation, the lighting options, or don’t have the skill to use them. Professional wedding photographers have more photographic equipment in their armoury and also have more experience using different setups to capture stunning images. Although DSLR cameras are available to anyone, it takes experience and proficiency to capture the best possible photos and get the most out of any camera. The type of equipment used is crucial, but just as if not more important, is the person handling the equipment. The ideal scenario is that you have the best equipment available and a highly skilled professional photographer to be able to get the most out of it. This includes choosing the right equipment and camera settings for indoor and outdoor shots at the venue and the changing conditions at both.

The Role the Photographer Plays

One other very good reason to hire a professional wedding photographer, instead of using a relative, is that they’re less likely to become distracted. A professional photographer won’t be looking to get involved with the celebrations like a family member would.

A photographer won’t be off drinking alcohol or eating cake when they should be capturing an important shot. They’ll be concentrating on the job in hand, candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.

Wedding shoots also tend to go much better when guests are engaging with paid, professional photographers. When family members organise a photo session, or an ad hoc photo opportunity, there’s a different dynamic to when a photographer sets up a professional shoot.

Skill with Different Styles of Photography

In order to get a specific photographic style, you need a professional photographer whose style matches what youíre looking for. If you want to ask an amateur photographer, the chances are that theyíre not familiar with the differences between traditional, contemporary, fine art, or photojournalistic styles.

Can they deliver what you want the way you want it? Quite often, they will not be able to. Take some time to consider what you want and then ensure that the photographer you use is able to capture the style that you want. Once you have a style in mind, hire a photographer that can picture what it is you want.

Communication Skills and Timeliness

A professional photographer is normally a much better choice than an amateur photographer or enthusiast and weíve already touched on a few other reasons so far. A professional photographer will have the experience to ensure that photo sessions remain within the schedule and do not detract from other parts of the day.

A professional wedding photographer will be able to communicate effectively and persuasively with guests to ensure they are where they need to be. They will use their voice and body language to encourage people to where they need to be, persuasively getting things done and enhancing rather than detracting from the celebration of your special day. Maintaining a balance between holding a distance as a photographer but getting involved to encourage people is a very difficult balance to strike and very few amateurs have the experience to do it.

You Get More with Professional Wedding Photographers

Thereís no person youíll be spending more time with on your wedding day than your photographer. The wedding photographer will take the initial shots during the day as you get ready and even travel to the church and will stay with you throughout the day and maybe until you leave for home or honeymoon.

Your wedding photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. The best wedding photographers are practically invisible, until you need a photo taken. Your photographer will ensure everything is just as it should be, by noticing the small things like wonky ties, or untucked shirts.

They are there to help you get the best pictures and will try and fix anything that is in the way of that goal. Your wedding planner will have lots of other things to do and wonít shadow you all day in Burgess-Hill, not like your photographer will. Your photographer will calm emotions when they heighten and ensure that people get to the right place at the right time.

Patience

Your wedding photographer should be professional and help you relax throughout the day. Think about the number of hours you will be with this one person on your special day. You want to be happy that you made the right decision.

The photographer should have a great mix of patience, empathy and skills of persuasion, as well as technically superb. They need to go with the flow and be able to make your personality shine brightly on your special day in Burgess Hill. Even if things don’t go exactly to plan, the wedding photographer will remain in control, calm and measured, as a reassuring presence. An expert wedding photographer is flexible and goes with the flow of the event, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Your Wedding Photographer and What to Expect?

For most people, the wedding day will be the first time they find themselves in front of a professional photographerís camera lens. As well as being anxious about the big day, having a camera pointed at you all day can make you feel even more uncomfortable, especially if you feel that photos donít generally flatter you.

If you have done your homework by selecting a professional wedding photographer in Burgess Hill that matches your style, there are a few things that a wedding photographer will deliver to mark a satisfactory service.

Promptness and Professionalism

Professionalism will shine through during your research into a photographer, while checking out their reputation, their enthusiasm for photography and their portfolio itself. Your wedding photographer should remain polite and courteous at all times, demonstrating a great attitude, good time keeping for every aspect of the schedule and remaining suitably attired throughout the day. Your wedding photographer should arrive before they need to, so that they can get a feel for the venues and the best places to get the shots that you desire.

Wedding Day Rehearsal (The day before)

Church wedding ceremonies normally have the custom of a wedding rehearsal a day or two before the wedding. In many cases you photographer will choose to attend this event and to speak to the presiding minister about where they can and cannot stand and what they can and cannot do during ceremony. The registrar will normally be consulted on the day of the wedding with civil ceremonies, in order for the wedding photographer to get the information they need.

The Wedding

Your wedding photographer will tend to arrive to take photos of the bridal presentations, the timings will have been agreed. He will stay with you for the entire day and will mirror you through the day without interrupting. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help. Jeff Woodall photography will be poised to capture all of the beautiful moments through the day, without intruding in any way.

At some point in the night, often after the first dance, your wedding photographer will check with you to find out if thereís anything else you would like to be pictured. The backing up process will begin if you are happy for your photographer to call it a day. Every photo will be stored on a reliable backup storage device and kept safe until such a time as the photos have been through the full editing process and have been delivered to you to your satisfaction. We fully understand that your photographs are precious and need to be looked after.

Getting Your Wedding Photos Edited

Editing is a crucial stage in the wedding photography process and will be completed within the days that follow the event in Burgess-Hill. The first step is to select the best images that tell the story of your wedding. Every selected photograph is edited using a light touch approach with only a few subtle edits.

Jeff Woodall photography provide clients with images that are high resolution. The pictures are cropped as necessary and the colours are balanced. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.

When the editing process is complete, the photos are exported from the suite of editing tools and the files uploaded to an online password protected gallery for viewing and also uploaded to a USB stick; you can then distribute the photos as you want and share on social media. Sharing your wedding photos is great fun and so we provide you with the USB stick with high definition pictures and instructions of how to give access to your online gallery to friends and family.

Helping clients down the line

Once you have your photos, you’ll be looking for a way to present them and Jeff Woodall photography will be available to discuss the design of wedding photo books and to talk you through wedding album options. Even if you’ve set your mind to the style and design of your digital photo book album, it can take a bit of time after the wedding day to decide on which photos to include.

In most cases the photo book capacity will be around 80 images. The design process will then begin, as your photographer works on the album.

Here is a list of things included in a wedding photography package

Below is a list of the what is included in a wedding photography package. Some of the items you’ll need to make some careful decisions about, whereas others take care of themselves. Number of events to be photographed

You’ll probably want the photographer for the wedding ceremony and some or all of the after-party but itís worth thinking about whether you want photos from the bridal shower and the engagement party too. This will be early on in the decision-making process and will be divided into a number of days that you need the photographer. The events you want to be captured will be communicated.

How many hours you want the photographer for the shoot in Burgess Hill

Each assignment a photographer takes is normally broken down into a number of hours. Although we tend to use this pricing method for most events and for portrait shoots, the process has been simplified for our wedding packages, to fit the scheduling needs for each wedding and ensure that we remain flexible enough to go with the flow of your day.

I used to offer a variety of wedding packages, just as many photographers still do, such as Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. This way of doing things can get over complicated and even more so when additional options and extras are added to the mix. With me you get a full day’s coverage for a set price. Obviously, I’m not going to give hours of my time for free, but I’m happy to arrive early to get some shots, or stay after the first dance if there’s extra photos that need to be captured. The last thing you want to hear after that, is that you have been billed for an extra hour, as you only paid for the Silver package of eight hours and for various reasons things ran late. For wedding ceremonies that are a long way away and need significant travel or even flights, there would be some negotiation required over accommodation, fuel, flights, food and refreshments.

Different Styles and How They’re Different

Fine Art Photography

Photojournalistic photographers will tend not to take so many traditional shots and nor do fine art photographers. They prefer to take an artistic view and capture elements, events and people with that mindset, always looking for dramatic lighting and backgrounds. The Fine Art photographer in Burgess-Hill prefers to pack their photos with art and drama, often using black and white as a filter.

Vintage Style Photography

The diversity and popularity of vintage photo filters has helped to drive this style of photography. More and more couples are choosing vintage wedding photography as their wedding style for their photographs. This style of photography can evoke feelings of nostalgia and the old and timeless nature of that style really seems to appeal to people. Colour filters together with other post processing methods have the capacity to translate rather plain images into artistic pieces and photographers in Burgess-Hill who have a keen eye in this area, can work wonders with wedding photographs.

Traditional or Classical

With traditional or classical photography, nearly every picture is considered to be a posed portrait, even those moments that may appear to be more spontaneous. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. The aim of traditional photography is to capture moments with dignity and artistry, using many posed shots, including many formal images, under a range of lighting options.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

Similar to a documentary style, photojournalism photography is about recording the event, rather than orchestrating them. The formal shots you would expect at every wedding, will be captured, as well as group and individual wedding guest shots. The photojournalistic wedding photographer tells the story of the day, using a mix of close-up and candid shots, showing spontaneous reaction and recording the atmosphere of the event , rather than orchestrating the scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

This can be an effective way to present classic, timeless images. Although many clients prefer colour photographs, a large number also appreciate the way that removing colour can enhance the mood captured in images. You need to decide what you like. Some people really don’t like monochrome images, but black and white photographs can tend to enhance the feeling of atmosphere when done well, helping to focus attention on the subjects of the images. The extra contrast of black and monochrome images can really evoke a certain atmosphere that colour sometimes simply cannot.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

When shooting pictures, this photography technique requires attention to detail and the ability to consider various different elements and this complexity continues into the editing stage. The photographer that uses HDR and colour popped techniques will use them sparingly, only with the right images, to maximise the impact of those colour popped or high dynamic scenes.
