Why you should hire a pro-wedding photographer

The planning for your wedding day is probably almost done if your wedding is coming up soon. Catering for the event is in hand, the wedding cake is chosen and the wedding venue is all booked. You’ve picked your wedding gown, the centrepieces and the flowers.

The wedding photographs are next on the list. Your uncle is a good amateur photographer and perhaps you’re considering asking him.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. This is certainly not the way to go.

Your wedding photos should be entrusted to a professional wedding photographer

The benefits of hiring a professional photographer are far greater than the cost savings you get when you hire an amateur photographer! There are dozens of special moments that happen on your wedding day and in a flash they’re gone and forgotten if not captured in your photos.

The benefits of having an expert wedding photographer

The photography equipment and software that a professional wedding photographer you hire will use will ensure that you get the best quality images possible.

As well as a wealth of knowledge and experience, wedding photographers have access to premium photography equipment and software to enable them to capture the best wedding pictures possible.

The cameras are just part of the equation when it comes to taking fantastic photographs. The quality of the cameras on smartphones these days makes it very tempting to turn to them for wedding photography. This could probably be one of the biggest mistakes you make. Every wedding day deserves photographs that are captured skillfully, in the style of your choosing. Let’s delve deeper into what a professional wedding photographer can bring to your wedding day and how they add value.

A detailed knowledge of their camera equipment and how to deal with variable lighting conditions. A wedding photographer will not be able to produce fantastic pictures in all conditions if they don’t have the lenses for the situation, the lighting options, or don’t have the skill to use them. Professional wedding photographers have more photographic equipment in their armoury and also have more experience using different setups to capture stunning images. Experienced professionals can get the most out of a DSLR camera due to their experience and skill, although anyone can take a picture with one. Both the camera equipment and the photographer are equally important in creating and capturing great photos. In order to get your dream photos, you need high end camera equipment and a wedding photographer with the experience, talent and knowledge to use it appropriately to its full potential. This includes being able to take great pictures in different photographic lighting conditions, indoors and outdoors, with different natural and artificial light at the venue.

The Photographerís Role

A professional wedding photographer is far less likely to be distracted by situations of the day than a family member or relative. A professional photographer wonít be looking to get involved with the celebrations like a family member would.

maid of honour getting made up

They wonít miss that precious moment whilst chatting with wedding guests, having a beer or grabbing a slice of cake. Theyíll be concentrating on the job in hand, candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.

Another thing to bear in mind is that wedding guests tend to respond to photoshoots better when they are being arranged by professional wedding photographers. When family members are taking control of a family photo session it tends to be taken less seriously.

The Photographic Style

In order to get a specific photographic style, you need a professional photographer whose style matches what youíre looking for. Not many amateurs are familiar with the differences between photojournalistic, fine art, traditional or contemporary styles.

Can they deliver what you want the way you want it? In many cases, they will not have the skills to do so. Take some time to consider the photography styles you want to make sure that the wedding photographer you hire is in sync with you. Go with a professional photographer who can quickly understand what it is you are trying to achieve.

A Reliable and Communicative Professional

There are many more reasons that a professional photographer is a better choice than using a relative or enthusiast. Itís easy to understate how a professional photographer can contribute to the day; blending into the background when necessary and getting involved to smooth the schedule and push things along when time is getting tight.

A professional wedding photographer will be able to communicate effectively and persuasively with guests to ensure they are where they need to be. They will use body language and verbal messages, without imposing on your guests, to run through the necessary formalities whilst enhancing the celebration of your wedding day. Amateur photographers, no matter how hard they try, will find it hard to identify the right approach to photo sessions, being distant to a degree, professional, humorous, encouraging and supporting guests through the process, in order to capture those memorable shots.

Professional Wedding Photographers Are a Better Choice

There arenít many people that you will spend more time on your wedding day than your wedding photographer. They will be with you from the preamble shots all the way to the departure.

You wedding photographer has been hired to capture every special moment of the day, whilst staying in the background unnoticed and will do that from start to end. The best wedding photographers are practically invisible, until you need a photo taken. Your photographer will ensure everything is just as it should be, by noticing the small things like wonky ties, or untucked shirts.

They will be there to inform you of this and help you try to fix it. Your wedding planner will not be your shadow all day in Heathfield, but your photographer will. The photographer will help the wedding party and guests be where they need to be and help to calm any emotions.

Patience

As a couple, you need to hire a professional photographer that you are comfortable with. Considering the amount of time this individual is going to be a major part of your wedding day, you need to choose wisely. You want to be happy that you made the right decision.

The photographer should have a great mix of patience, empathy and skills of persuasion, as well as technically superb. With the camera, they need to ensure that you and your personality shines through on your wedding day. Even if things donít go exactly to plan, the wedding photographer will remain in control, calm and measured, as a reassuring presence. An experienced wedding photographer will flow with the event and will be quick to adapt, always remaining professional.

What to Expect from Your Wedding Photographer?

For a lot of wedding couples, their wedding day is the first time a professional wedding photographer has their camera lens pointed at them. As well as being anxious about the big day, having a camera pointed at you all day can make you feel even more uncomfortable, especially if you feel that photos donít generally flatter you.

If you have spent a bit of time selecting the right wedding photographer for you, the photographer will do a few things in order to make the process better.

Professional Conduct and Prompt Time Keeping

Professionalism comes naturally if you hire someone based on their reputation and passion. Your photographer should be friendly, polite, punctual and appropriately dressed for the event. Your photographer should get to your wedding venues earlier than the guests so that they can get a feel for the environment; they will probably have been to some of the venues already in order to understand the limitations and possibilities.

The Day Before the Wedding - the Rehearsal

If you plan to have a church ceremony, then itís customary to have a rehearsal a day or a week before. Your photographer may want to attend this to check the location and to have a brief discussion with the Vicar about where to stand during the service. This discussion normally happens on the day of the wedding with the registrar, in the case of a civil ceremony.

The Big Day – the Wedding

The bridal presentations will be captured by your photographer, he will arrive as agreed. He will remain with you for the whole day, without interrupting, obstructing or in any way affecting the flow of the day. Jeff Woodall photography prides itself on its ability to remain unobtrusive but to always be available for questions and to keep spirits high, ensuring that no beautifully precious moment is lost. Jeff Woodall photography will be poised to capture all of the beautiful moments through the day, without intruding in any way.

Sometime after the first dance, your wedding photographer will have a conversation with you to find out whether there are any more pictures that you would like taken. If you are satisfied that your photographer has captured the day, he will begin the process of backing up all of the photos. All the photos will be fully backed up by Jeff Woodall photography, on 2 hard drives and the backups will be kept save until all wedding photos have been edited and delivered to you. Your photographs are as important to us as they are to you.

Getting Your Wedding Photos Edited

In the days after the wedding in Heathfield the important editing stage is completed. At the start of the editing stage, the photos need to be sifted through so that the best ones can be selected. The selected photographs go through a light touch approach that enhances them subtly.

The images that are captured by Jeff Woodall photography are always crisp and sharp. During post processing, the images undergo some minor editing. They are colour balanced and cropped. Some of the pictures may be converted to monochrome and other style filters may be applied to further enhance the overall effects of your images.

The images are then exported and uploaded to an online password protected gallery, ready to be viewed by you, your friends and family as you wish. You will also be given all high resolution images on a USB stick. We know that you’ll want to be sharing your beautiful wedding photos online and giving access to your family and friends. So, weíll provide instructions of how to share your online gallery access with everyone you want to and weíll provide you with a USB stick with high-definition pictures as well.

Helping clients down the line

Jeff Woodall photography will be available for everything else you need; to talk about albums, or the types of bespoke wedding photo books that can be designed for you. Early on you’ll probably decide if you want a digital photo book album and the different colours and styles that you will require, but it’ll probably take you a while after your wedding ceremony to decide which of the images you are going to want to include.

You’ll probably be asked to pick your favorite 80 photographs that depict the story of your day and you can ask your photographer any questions to guide you on this. Your photographer then goes about the task of designing the album.

What does your wedding photography package include

Take a look below to see what is included in packages for wedding photography

Below is a list of the what is included in a wedding photography package. Some of the items are self-explanatory and take care of themselves, whereas others are very important. The number of wedding events you want photos from.

From the engagement party, the bridal shower, the wedding ceremony, reception and after party. This decision will dictate how many days you have for the photographer and will be made early on in your planning stages. You need to communicate the dates and times of events with the photographer.

Number of hours for the shoot in Heathfield

Typically, a photographer will work out pricing based on the number of hours they need to put into any assignment. I often use this for portrait and events but in terms of weddings, I have simplified the process to a large extent, due to the flexible nature of the day and the fact that each wedding is quite different and difficult to predict in terms of exact timings.

You are probably familiar with photographers offering Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze wedding packages in Heathfield. What exactly gets delivered becomes complicated, especially in those cases where additional options are added to these package deals. I find it works better to have a set price for a full day’s coverage. Obviously, I’m not going to give hours of my time for free, but I’m happy to arrive early to get some shots, or stay after the first dance if there’s extra photos that need to be captured. We understand that things can run a little off schedule and don’t want you to be billed for an extra hour here or there if a Silver or Gold package, didn’t cover the hours to fully record your event. If there is travel involved to the wedding ceremony there would need to be some negotiation over the expenses involved in terms of accommodation, fuel or flights, food and refreshments.

A Look at the Differences in Styles

Fine Art Photography

Photographers that concentrate on a fine art style, don’t usually take traditional shots, just as photojournalistic photographers donít. Instead, they use an artistic approach to capture elements, people and events, with a subtle use of effective lighting techniques. Fine Art photographers in Heathfield have a flair for the dramatic and always looking for the artistic side when composing and staging their photos, often using different filters, including black and white.

Vintage Style Photography

The diversity and popularity of vintage photo filters has helped to drive this style of photography. The number of weddings that are being photographed with a vintage wedding theme in mind, seems to be steadily growing. This style of photography can bring with it an ageless, timeless quality and has the power to stir emotions and maybe this is why more and more people are seeing the appeal in it. Vintage photography done well in Heathfield, transforms ordinary images into artistic work of art using colour filters and various props and lighting tricks.

Traditional or Classical

Seemingly spontaneous and ad hoc moments often tend to actually be taken as posed portraits with traditional or classical photography. With traditional or classical wedding photography, it’s unlikely that you’ll get lots of action and movement in photos, but the images shouldnít feel unnaturally forced either. The wedding ceremony will be captured with the aim of taking pictures that are artistic and functional, but perhaps driven less by drama or emotion.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

Photojournalism looks to record moments on camera, rather than orchestrating specific staged shots. The formal shots you would expect at every wedding, will be captured, as well as group and individual wedding guest shots. The photo journalistic photographer is all about immortalizing the spontaneous reactions and emotions of the day as they happen, rather than orchestrating and staging their images.

Black and White (Monochrome)

Black and White photographs often create a timeless and classic look. Black-and-white photos are appreciated by many for their ability to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the scene being depicted. It’s all about preference. Monochrome images aren’t always liked by everybody, but using this style can really draw attention to particular aspects of the sceneís composition and subject matter. Removing the colour from images and creating black and white can evoke a certain ambience within photographs that colour sometimes lacks.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

Attention to detail during the shoot and excellent editing skills are required for this type of photography technique. The users of HDR and colour popped photography techniques, carefully choose the scenes they shoot in order to create images that are striking, with vibrant colours which draw the viewersí attention to a particular area of the image.
