Main Reasons Wedding Photography Is Important.

When planning your wedding event, finding time to hire a photographer may initially be low on your priority list.

However, it is important enough that you should bump it up your priority list. You need to set a budget that is sufficient for the task and get your photographer booked up as far in advance as possible. It is important to have a talented wedding photographer who has the skills and experience to perfectly capture all the precious moments of your wedding day. Your wedding photos and your wedding album will come out in the future with friends, family, children and grandchildren to help you tell the story of the day.

You’ll turn to your wedding photos many times in the future, recapturing the precious memories of that special day. Your cake will have been eaten, the flowers gone and your wedding dress and shoes packed away after the wedding, but you will have your wedding photographs forever and you will be looking over them and sharing them for years to come, so do ensure that you place enough importance on having them done properly!

Why you should hire a pro-photographer for your wedding day.

You’ve probably got most of the planning done already if your wedding is fast approaching. Catering for the event is in hand, the wedding cake is chosen and the wedding venue is all booked. You’ve picked your wedding gown, the centrepieces and the flowers.

You are now thinking about capturing the precious memories of your big day as photographic images. Perhaps you’ve spoken to your nephew about taking the photographs at your wedding.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. This really is not the way that you should proceed.

You should hire a professional wedding photographer

The benefits of hiring a professional photographer are far greater than the cost savings you get when you hire an amateur photographer! The photos that are taken must capture those special seconds that mean the most to you.

The quality of the photographs is determined by far more than just the camera that is taking them. But for many, who perceive that smartphone cameras are amazing, it is really tempting to try and cut costs on your wedding photography. This could probably be one of the biggest mistakes you make. Everyone desires photographs that are skillfully composed and expertly captured for their wedding day. Let’s delve deeper into what a professional wedding photographer can bring to your wedding day and how they add value.

Knowledge with the latest camera equipment and the use of it in varying situations. The photographer’s performance will be limited by not having a choice of lenses, lighting options and also by not being skilled in their use. Professional wedding photographers have comprehensive photographic equipment in their armoury and also have more experience using different setups to capture stunning images. Although DSLR cameras are available to anyone, it takes experience and proficiency to capture the best possible photos and get the most out of any camera. The type of equipment used is crucial, but just as if not more important, is the person handling the equipment. What you need to get the best wedding photography experience is high end, appropriate camera equipment and a seasoned wedding photography professional who knows how to use it to its full potential. The skill of the photographer includes being able to take great photos in diverse lighting scenarios, depending on the weather, using both the available light and creative lighting techniques.

The Role of the Photographer

Another reason to hire a professional wedding photographer, rather than trusting a family member or a friend with the task, is it they will be less distracted. A relative will likely expect to enjoy the day and become part of it, whereas a professional photographer will know that their role is very clearly defined.

A professional photographer wonít be tempted to chat with guests, grab a quick beer, or be first in line for cake when they should be taking an important shot. Theyíll be concentrating on the job in hand, candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.

Something else that is a factor is that wedding guests tend to respect photo opportunities much more when they are gently marshalled by professional photographers. When family members are taking control of a family photo session it tends to be taken less seriously.

The Style of the Photography

If you have in mind a particular photographic style, then you should hire a professional that is an expert in that area or style. If you asked the majority of amateur photographers what the difference is between fine art, contemporary, traditional or photojournalistic photography styles, most wouldnít have a clue.

Can they deliver what you want the way you want it? In most cases, they will fall short. Don’t rush into a decision; think about the style you want and get a photographer that can match it. Go with a professional photographer who can quickly understand what it is you are trying to achieve.

Reliability and Communication

There are lots of other reasons to choose a professional wedding photographer rather than choosing a relative, friend or enthusiast to take your photos. Any wedding day has tough moments to overcome, whether it is getting a large group together while meeting a deadline with a photoshoot in session and a professional brings a mass of experience to help deal with this.

A professional wedding photographer will get people where they need to be for each photo and plan all the photo sessions to ensure no one gets missed out, or no opportunity is missed. They will use their voice and body language to encourage people to where they need to be, persuasively getting things done and enhancing rather than detracting from the celebration of your special day in Crowborough. Amateur photographers find it incredibly difficult to maintain the necessary distance, humour, intimacy and support along with effectively communicating to get the perfect shot.

Professional Wedding Photographers Are a Better Choice

The wedding photographer is around all day, spending time with you on your wedding day. The wedding photographer will take preamble shots at the start of the day, shots at the venue, pictures at the reception and perhaps even pictures as you leave the venue at the end of the day.

Your photographer remains constantly around you, having been hired to capture every memory and every moment without being noticed. If they know what they’re doing, you won’t even notice them. The photographer is the one who notices every detail out of place such as lipstick stains on the teeth, or wonky button holes etc.

Your photographer will help you try and fix anything that could spoil a quality photo. Your wedding planner will not be your shadow all day, but your photographer will. The photographer will ensure that the wedding party are at the right place at the right time and calm everyone throughout any anxious or emotional moments.

Patience Is the Key

Your wedding photographer should be professional and help you relax throughout the day. Considering the amount of time this individual is going to be a major part of your wedding day, you need to choose wisely. You want that decision to feel right at every moment of the day.

You need a technically proficient photographer with, empathy, patience, understanding and superb planning skills. They need to flow through the day with you, capturing the best of your personality through the lens. A professional will remain calm and in control even when things donít always go exactly to plan. The best wedding photographers flow with the event, are flexible and adaptable with the images they capture, whilst always maintaining professional standards.

What to Expect from Your Wedding Photographer?

The wedding day is often the first time that the couple has ever had a professional photographer taking shots of them. Those that are camera shy, or don’t particularly like how they look in photos, can feel anxious and worried about having a camera pointing at them all day.

If you have spent a bit of time selecting the right wedding photographer for you, the photographer in Crowborough will do a few things in order to make the process better.

Professional Conduct and Prompt Time Keeping

After looking at a photographer based on their reputation, the passion for their work and their portfolio of previous work, you can feel comfortable that you will have hired someone who is professional. Your wedding photographer should remain polite and courteous at all times, demonstrating a great attitude, good time keeping for every aspect of the schedule and remaining suitably attired throughout the day. Your photographer should get to your wedding venues earlier than the guests so that they can get a feel for the environment; they will probably have been to some of the venues already in order to understand the limitations and possibilities.

The Wedding Rehearsal on the Day Before the Wedding

It is customary for church wedding ceremonies to have a rehearsal a few days before the big day. Your photographer may want to attend this to check the location and to have a brief discussion with the Vicar about where to stand during the service. With civil ceremonies, the photographers will normally have a discussion with the registrar prior to the wedding starting.

The Big Day – the Wedding

Your wedding photographer will normally arrive to capture the bridal presentations, at a pre agreed time. He wonít interrupt at any point during the day but will be with you throughout. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help.

Sometime after the first dance, your wedding photographer will have a conversation with you to find out whether there are any more pictures that you would like taken. The photographer will start to backup the photos if you are happy that they have captured all the moments you need. All the photos will be fully backed up by Jeff Woodall photography, on 2 hard drives and the backups will be kept save until all wedding photos have been edited and delivered to you. We understand just how precious your photographs are to you.

Getting Your Wedding Photos Edited

Editing the images is an important part of preparing your wedding photography package, completed in the days after the wedding event. At the start of the editing stage, the photos need to be sifted through so that the best ones can be selected. The selected photographs go through a light touch approach that enhances them subtly.

Jeff Woodall photography only use beautifully sharp images. Images are cropped and have their colours balanced where necessary, but is limited to minor adjustments. Style filters may be applied to some of your wedding images to create a specific look and some will be converted to black and white.

Once through the editing process, the images are exported to both USB and an online password protected gallery, for viewing by everyone that you want to give access. If you want to share access to your wedding photos on your own online gallery, weíll give you instructions on how to do so, as well as providing a high-definition backup of all your photos on a USB stick.

Helping clients down the line

Once you have your photos, you’ll be looking for a way to present them and Jeff Woodall photography will be available to discuss the design of wedding photo books and to talk you through wedding album options. You probably have decided beforehand whether you wish to opt for a digital photo book album, the styles and colours etc., but it won’t be a short time after the ceremony that you decide which images you would like it to contain.

Your photographer will guide you through how many photos to choose and how best to tell the story and we’ll probably suggest around 80 photos. Your photographer will then begin to design the album for you.

Take a look below to see what is included in packages for wedding photography

To find out more about what wedding packages normally include. Some of the items are self-explanatory and take care of themselves, whereas others are very important. The number of wedding events you want photos from.

From the engagement party, the bridal shower, the wedding ceremony, reception and after party. This would equate to how many days the photographer provides to you and will be early on in the decision-making process. You need to communicate which events you want captured to get them in the diary.

Number of hours for the shoot in Crowborough

Photographers will normally price up based on the likely time involved. At Jeff Woodall photography this is normally the way we price up events and portraits, but with weddings the process has been simplified because we understand that each day is completely different, timings are personal and we need to be flexible to capture the flow of your wedding events.

Photographers often [I used to] have different packages i.e. Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc. What exactly gets delivered becomes complicated, especially in those cases where additional options are added to these package deals. I find it works better to have a set price for a full day’s coverage. I don’t quibble over the extra hour we were there, due to late starts etc. We know you don’t want to have an extra hour billed after the event, just because your schedule fell behind and the eight hours you paid for in the Silver package didn’t cover the full day. If your wedding destination is a long way away, we’ll need to negotiate expenses for accommodation, flights, fuel and food.

What are the differences between all these different styles?

Fine Art Photography

Similar to photojournalistic photography, fine art photographers rarely take traditional shots. Rather, their pictures are captured through an artistic appreciation of events, elements and people, accented with the use of stunning lighting. The Fine Art photographer in Crowborough prefers to pack their photos with art and drama, often using black and white as a filter.

Vintage Style Photography

This style of photography was borne partly from the popularity of vintage photo filters. More and more couples are choosing vintage wedding photography as their wedding style for their photographs. This style of photography can bring with it an ageless, timeless quality and has the power to stir emotions and maybe this is why more and more people are seeing the appeal in it. Through the use of various methods, such as colour filters used in this style, professional photographers are able to transform pretty standard looking images into works of art.

Traditional or Classical

Even apparently spontaneous shots are often treated as staged portrait pictures with traditional or classical photography. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. Traditional photographers are likely to want to record of the formalities of the wedding ceremony and to portray the dignity and meaning of the ceremony, with subtle lighting.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

This style involves the recording of events as opposed to the staging of them. Group shots will be taken as required, as well as candid and spontaneous images. There are few formal roundups and guests smiling for the shot. The photojournalistic wedding photographer tells the story of the day, using a mix of close-up and candid shots, showing spontaneous reaction and recording the atmosphere of the event , rather than orchestrating the scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

Black and White photographs often create a timeless and classic look. Although many people prefer colour images, others appreciate how removing that colour and by the skillfully use of post processing techniques, really create pictures that are packed with atmosphere. Preference is what matters here. Monochrome images may not appeal so much to some people, but it can produce more compelling photos as it sometimes helps the context and the subject to shine through. Removing the colour from images and creating black and white can evoke a certain ambience within photographs that colour sometimes lacks.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

When shooting photographs and using this photo technique, each shot is rather complex with lots of elements to consider and the editing process is equally detailed. The photographer chooses the appropriate moment with which to use these techniques, finally skillfully uses the right processing software to produce quality images with colours that pop and emphasises particular areas of a scene.
