The quality of the photographs is determined by far more than just the camera that is taking them. The quality of the cameras on smartphones these days makes it very tempting to turn to them for wedding photography. They often make a big mistake doing so. We know everyone wants the best possible photos they can get for their wedding. We’ll take a more in depth look now at what you get when you hire a professional wedding photographer in Crawley, which adds that extra value and makes it worth your while.

A detailed knowledge of their camera equipment and how to deal with variable lighting conditions. A photographerís resultant images will not be as impressive as they could be if they don’t have a variety of camera lenses and the knowledge and skills to use them, together with various lighting options. Professional wedding photographers normally bring to the table a lot more skill, knowledge and equipment that they can use. Experienced professionals can get the most out of a DSLR camera due to their experience and skill, although anyone can take a picture with one. The person using the equipment and the quality of equipment being used are equally important. Ideally, you want to go for high end gear, as well as an expert photographer who has the knowledge and expertise in using that equipment optimally. This includes various photographic lighting options, which might be necessary depending on the degree of ambient light available due to the weather conditions or the available light at the chosen venues.

The Role the Photographer Plays

One other very good reason to hire a professional wedding photographer in, instead of using a relative, is that theyíre less likely to become distracted. When you pay a professional photographer, theyíre there to do a job, whereas a family member is more likely to be looking to enjoy the celebrations.

They wonít miss that precious moment whilst chatting with wedding guests, having a beer or grabbing a slice of cake. Theyíll be concentrating on the job in hand, candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.

Wedding shoots also tend to go much better when guests are engaging with paid, professional photographers. If a relative is trying to organise a photo session, it might end up far less organised than if a professional were doing it.

Skill with Different Styles of Photography

In order to get a specific photographic style, you need a professional photographer whose style matches what youíre looking for. If you want to ask an amateur photographer, the chances are that theyíre not familiar with the differences between traditional, contemporary, fine art, or photojournalistic styles.

Are you certain that theyíre going to be able to provide you with the photos that you dream of? Often, this is not the case. Take some time to consider what you want and then ensure that the photographer you use is able to capture the style that you want. Once you have a style in mind, hire a photographer that can picture what it is you want.

Communication and Reliability

A professional photographer really is a better choice than going for an amateur relative or enthusiast friend in most cases and there are lots of other reasons why. A professional photographer will have the experience to ensure that photo sessions remain within the schedule and do not detract from other parts of the day.

A professional photographer will be able to communicate effectively with your guests and keep the photo sessions flowing, by effectively getting people where they need to be. They have the experience to do so using body language, cues and verbally, without obstructing your guests, or spoiling the celebration of your big day. An amateur photographer, no matter how much effort they put in, will not be able to maintain a balance between the necessary distance, humour, intimacy and support while still getting the perfect shots.

If You Want More, Use Professional Wedding Photographers

There arenít many people that you will spend more time on your wedding day than your wedding photographer. From the shots of you getting ready and preparing to go to church all the way to the moment you leave the wedding venue, the photographer is there.

Your wedding photographer is always near you, having been engaged to capture the emotion and style of your day in its entirety. Good wedding photographers will only be noticed when they need to organise a photo session. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.

Your photographer will help you try and fix anything that could spoil a quality photo. Your photographer will be your shadow all day in Crawley, not your wedding planner. Your photographer will calm emotions when they heighten and ensure that people get to the right place at the right time.

A Patient Demeanor

Your wedding photographer should be professional and help you relax throughout the day. The amount of time youíre going to spend with this person on your special day really is significant. The person you have decided on needs to be the right one.

The professional photographer will have to be technically skilled, with an added mix of patience, experience and understanding. It is their job to help the day flow and to bring out your personality and capture it with their photography skills. A good photographer will remain balanced and relaxed even throughout the many challenges during the day. The best wedding photographers flow with the event, are flexible and adaptable with the images they capture, whilst always maintaining professional standards.

Your Wedding Photographer and What to Expect?

Often people have never been in front of a professional camera before their wedding day. This can be a source of anxiety and worry, especially for those that donít like the way they look in photographs.

If you have spent a bit of time selecting the right wedding photographer for you, the photographer in will do a few things in order to make the process better.

Good Time Keeping and Professional Standards

If you hire people for the right reasons, such as their passion, reputation and having looked at their work, professionalism will be a given. You want your wedding photographer to get on with the guests, to have an excellent attitude towards time keeping and to dress in a suitable manner for your wedding. Your photographer should arrive early on the day, to scout the location having probably visited relevant locations several times already.

The Wedding Rehearsal on the Day Before the Wedding

In many cases, church wedding ceremonies have a rehearsal during the week before the wedding. Your photographer may want to find out from the Vicar where they should stand during the vows and which vantage points wedding photographers normally use in the church. The registrar will normally be consulted on the day of the wedding with civil ceremonies, in order for the wedding photographer to get the information they need.

Wedding Day (The big day)

Your wedding photographer will take pictures of the bridal paraphernalia, the timing for this will be pre agreed. He will be there for the rest of the day but will not interrupt the flow in any way. Itís crucial to the team at Jeff Woodall photography that every precious memory is captured on camera and that we remain unobtrusive, so the day can play out naturally; we are of course available for any questions and we strive to raise the spirits of everyone in the party. Sometime after the first dance, your wedding photographer will have a conversation with you to find out whether there are any more pictures that you would like taken. The backup process will begin once your photographer has completed their work. Every photo will be stored on a reliable backup storage device and kept safe until such a time as the photos have been through the full editing process and have been delivered to you to your satisfaction. We understand just how precious your photographs are to you.

Wedding Photo Editing

The editing of wedding photographs takes place in the days after the wedding in and is a crucial part of the wedding photography process. Every selected photograph is edited using a light touch approach with only a few subtle edits.

Jeff Woodall photography provide clients with images that are high resolution. Images are cropped and have their colours balanced where necessary, but is limited to minor adjustments. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.

The pictures are then prepared and uploaded for viewing, by anyone you want to give access in an online password protected Gallery. They are also provided to you on a presentation USB stick. Instructions on how to access the gallery which you can share with friends and family will be sent to you along with a USB stick containing high resolution images that you can easily share online.

After care

Jeff Woodall photography will always be on hand, accessible to talk about wedding photo album options and the design of wedding photo books if you so require them. Even if you’ve set your mind to the style and design of your digital photo book album, it can take a bit of time after the wedding day to decide on which photos to include.

Your photographer will guide you through how many photos to choose and how best to tell the story and we’ll probably suggest around 80 photos. Your photographer will then begin to design the album for you.

Number of hours for the shoot in Crawley

Each assignment a photographer takes is normally broken down into a number of hours. With weddings, we understand that exact timings and schedule are very individual and that they need to go with the flow of your day. We need to be flexible and so we tend to take a different approach to pricing our wedding packages.

If you have looked around already, then you probably know that photographers frequently have different packages that they offer such as a Platinum, gold, Silver and a Bronze package in Crawley. When you start adding extras to these packages it all becomes a bit of a logistical nightmare to understand or work out the overall price. When you choose me, you get a fixed price for the day, with no hidden extras. Obviously, I’m not going to give hours of my time for free, but I’m happy to arrive early to get some shots, or stay after the first dance if there’s extra photos that need to be captured. Accommodation and travel to and from weddings. In cases where weddings are overseas, or in remote locations, there would need to be some negotiation regarding fuel or flights, food and accommodation.

What are the differences between all these different styles?

Fine Art Photography

Photographers that concentrate on a fine art style, don’t usually take traditional shots, just as photojournalistic photographers donít. Instead, they use an artistic approach to capture elements, people and events, with a subtle use of effective lighting techniques. The beautifully composed photos that fine art photographers take in Crawley tend to have an artistic and dramatic quality and they often apply striking filters and convert images to black and white.

Vintage Style Photography

Vintage photo filters have become quite popular over the last decade and has resulted in more demand for this style of photography. More and more weddings are seeing photographers using a vintage photography style. Photographs of the Vintage style are timeless, old and has the power to stir emotions in people, which is perhaps why the style has become so appealing. Colour filters together with other post processing methods have the capacity to translate rather plain images into artistic pieces and photographers in who have a keen eye in this area, can work wonders with wedding photographs.

Traditional or Classical

With traditional or classical photography, details of shots are considered staged, even those that you may think look spontaneous. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. The goal of photographers who prefer the traditional style is to take pictures that reflect the artistry and dignity of the wedding ceremony, with stunning lighting techniques.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

Photojournalism photography focuses on the actual moments that happen, rather than staging them. Group shots will be taken as required, as well as candid and spontaneous images. There are few formal ëgrip and griní roundups and guests smiling for the shot. Photojournalistic photographers prefer to capture spontaneous emotions and reactions, often by the use of close ups and candid techniques, they have a general philosophy of freezing that authentic moment in time, rather than creating orchestrated poses and scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

Black and White photographs often create a timeless and classic look. Although many people prefer colour images, others appreciate how removing that colour and by the skillfully use of post processing techniques, really create pictures that are packed with atmosphere. Everyone has a different preference. By using monochrome techniques, you can really bring out the essence of the subject of a photograph, although not everyone likes this style. Black and white photographs have the capacity to really enhance the atmosphere of an image, that is sometimes lost in the colour option.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

When shooting pictures, this photography technique requires attention to detail and the ability to consider various different elements and this complexity continues into the editing stage. This technique of photography [ HDR / colour popped] involves picking the right scenes and the right processing software to create highly appealing photographs with colours that pop and stunning detail that is striking for the viewer.
