Why you should hire a pro-wedding photographer

If you’re getting married soon, you’ve probably done the majority of the necessary planning. Catering for the event is in hand, the wedding cake is chosen and the wedding venue is all booked. Your wedding dress is perfect, your wedding theme is arranged and the flowers chosen.

You are now thinking about capturing the precious memories of your big day as photographic images. Perhaps you’ve spoken to your nephew about taking the photographs at your wedding.

That way you can save yourself some money, diverting the cash to other areas of your budget. You should definitely not go down this path.

Hiring a professional wedding photographer is the route you should take

The benefits you get when you hire a photographer with significant experience of weddings are much greater than the monetary savings you’ll make when you get the photos taken for free. There are dozens of special moments that happen on your wedding day and in a flash they’re gone and forgotten if not captured in your photos.

Benefits of hiring pro-wedding photography

When you choose to hire a professional wedding photographer in Battle the pictures you receive will be quality, in high resolution, captured with the best photography equipment and edited with skill, using professional editing software.

Using their knowledge and skills, together with camera and equipment of superior technology and editing with the latest software, your wedding photographer in Battle will be able to produce beautiful and unique images that will make your day..

The equipment that wedding photographers use goes far beyond the camera, which is only a part of what it takes to achieve the quality photography you need at your wedding. The quality of the cameras on smartphones these days makes it very tempting to turn to them for wedding photography. Many have found this to be a big mistake. Everyone desires photographs that are skillfully composed and expertly captured for their wedding day. I’ll explain some of these benefits in greater detail, to help you understand the value in paying a professional wedding photographer for the day in Battle.

A detailed knowledge of their camera equipment and how to deal with variable lighting conditions. A photographer is only as good as the lenses they use and the skills they possess and a full appreciation of lighting. Professional wedding photographers are better, not just because of their skill and experience, but also the equipment that they use. A DSLR camera can be purchased by anyone almost certainly, but the full potential of this camera can only be unlocked by experienced professionals. The skill of the person taking the photos is highly important, but they also need the right equipment to produce top results. Ideally, you want to go for high end gear, as well as an expert photographer who has the knowledge and expertise in using that equipment optimally. This includes being able to take great pictures in different photographic lighting conditions, indoors and outdoors, with different natural and artificial light at the venue.

The Photographerís Role

Another very good reason to engage the services of a professional wedding photographer in Battle is that theyíre going to be far less likely to become distracted than a family member or relative charged with capturing the dayís event. A professional photographer wonít be looking to get involved with the celebrations like a family member would.

They won’t miss important shots while eating a slice of cake, drinking alcohol or chit chatting with relatives. Their focus will be 100% on getting every possible moment captured on camera.

Something else that is a factor is that wedding guests tend to respect photo opportunities much more when they are gently marshalled by professional photographers. If you have a member of your family taking photos of everyone, guests might not take the photo sessions so seriously.

The Photographic Style

If you want a specific style of photography, you should hire a professional photographer whose style matches yours. Not many amateurs are familiar with the differences between photojournalistic, fine art, traditional or contemporary styles.

Can an amateur really deliver the pictures that are going to inspire you forever? Quite often, they will not be able to. Have a long think about this and make sure your wedding photographerís style is in sync with yours. Choose a professional who can immediately understand your style ideas when you explain them.

Communication Skills and Timeliness

There are many more reasons that a professional photographer is a better choice than using a relative or enthusiast. A professional photographer brings a lot of experience of weddings to the table and can help you to stay on track with the schedule and find the right balance between getting things done and blending into the background.

A professional photographer will be able to communicate effectively with your guests and keep the photo sessions flowing, by effectively getting people where they need to be. They will use their voice and body language to encourage people to where they need to be, persuasively getting things done and enhancing rather than detracting from the celebration of your special day in Battle. An amateur photographer, no matter how much effort they put in, will not be able to maintain a balance between the necessary distance, humour, intimacy and support while still getting the perfect shots.

If You Want More, Use Professional Wedding Photographers

You spend more time with your wedding photographer than anyone else on your wedding day. The wedding photographer will take the initial shots during the day as you get ready and even travel to the church and will stay with you throughout the day and maybe until you leave for home or honeymoon.

Your photographer remains constantly around you, having been hired to capture every memory and every moment without being noticed. If they know what they’re doing, you won’t even notice them. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.

By fixing any little issues they can help you get better images. Your wedding planner will not be your shadow all day in Battle, but your photographer will. The photographer will help the wedding party be where they need to be, when they need to be and to be as calm as they should be.

A Patient Demeanor

As a couple, you need to hire a professional photographer that you are comfortable with. This is a person you are going to be around a great deal on one of the most special days of your life. You want that decision to feel right at every moment of the day.

The professional photographer should have an incredible amount of patience, but also a good deal of empathy and subtle powers of persuasion. They need to flow with you and help the lens to capture your personality at its best throughout your special day in Battle. A good photographer will remain balanced and relaxed even throughout the many challenges during the day. An expert wedding photographer is flexible and goes with the flow of the event, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

What to Expect When You Hire a Wedding Photographer?

The wedding day is often the first time that the couple has ever had a professional photographer taking shots of them. This can be a source of anxiety and worry, especially for those that don’t like the way they look in photographs.

Having invested some time to choose the right wedding photographer, you can be assured that they will do certain things to make the process less stressful.

Good Time Keeping and Professional Standards

After looking at a photographer based on their reputation, the passion for their work and their portfolio of previous work, you can feel comfortable that you will have hired someone who is professional. You want your wedding photographer to get on with the guests, to have an excellent attitude towards time keeping and to dress in a suitable manner for your wedding. Your wedding photographer should arrive before they need to, so that they can get a feel for the venues and the best places to get the shots that you desire.

Rehearsing for the Wedding Day (The day before)

Church weddings tend to have a rehearsal date within a week of the main event. Your photographer may want to attend this to check the location and to have a brief discussion with the Vicar about where to stand during the service. If you choose to have a civil ceremony, then it will most likely be a chat with a registrar on the day of the wedding in Battle.

The Big Wedding Day

Your photographer will be there to take pictures of bridal presentations, or at whatever time you have agreed beforehand. He will stay with you for the entire day and will mirror you through the day without interrupting. Jeff Woodall photography’s ethos is to be very subtle, at staying in the background without interrupting the day, but being available to keep spirits high and answer any difficult questions, making sure that every single memory is captured in digital format. Jeff Woodall photography will be poised to capture all of the beautiful moments through the day, without intruding in any way.

Your wedding photographer will have a discussion with you sometime after the first dance to find out if you need any more precious moments captured. If you decide to call it a day, the photographer will start their backup process. Jeff Woodall does a full backup of the wedding images, to separate hard drives, which will be kept in a safe place on his photo editing suite, where they’ll remain until all the wedding photographs have been completely edited and delivered to you. We fully understand that your photographs are precious and need to be looked after.

Editing Wedding Photographs

Editing is a crucial stage in the wedding photography process and will be completed within the days that follow the event in Battle. At the first stage, all images are checked to select the ones that best tell the story of the day. Every selected photograph is edited using a light touch approach with only a few subtle edits.

The images provided to clients by Jeff Woodall photography are always high resolution. The pictures that require a little work are edited for colour balance and size. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.

Once through the editing process, the images are exported to both USB and an online password protected gallery, for viewing by everyone that you want to give access. Weíll provide you with all the instructions you need for how to access the online gallery and how to share it with your family and friends and we’ll also send you the USB stick with easy to use instructions on how to share your photos online.

Client support - follow-up

Once you have your photos, you’ll be looking for a way to present them and Jeff Woodall photography will be available to discuss the design of wedding photo books and to talk you through wedding album options. It can take some time after the wedding ceremony to decide on which pictures to include in your digital photo book album, even if you have already decided on colours, styles and designs.

Your photographer will guide you through how many photos to choose and how best to tell the story and we’ll probably suggest around 80 photos. The design of the album is then carried out by your photographer.

What is normally included in packages for wedding photography

Below is a list of the what is included in a wedding photography package. Some of the items are self-explanatory and take care of themselves, whereas others are very important. Which events you want the photographer at.

From the engagement party, the bridal shower, the wedding ceremony, reception and after party. This is the first thing to be discussed and can also be divided into the number of days. This will add up to a certain number of days and is normally the first thing that you need to decide. Following discussion and decisions you need to get the dates organised and communicate them to the photographer.

How many hours you want the photographer for the shoot in Battle

Generally, each assignment the photographer takes will be priced up largely based on the anticipated hours it will take. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.

If you have looked around already, then you probably know that photographers frequently have different packages that they offer such as a Platinum, gold, Silver and a Bronze package in Battle. When you start adding extras to these packages it all becomes a bit of a logistical nightmare to understand or work out the overall price. When you choose me, you get a fixed price for the day, with no hidden extras. I understand that there may be an extra hour here or there due to delays etc. The last thing you want to hear after that, is that you have been billed for an extra hour, as you only paid for the Silver package of eight hours and for various reasons things ran late. For wedding ceremonies that involves travelling, the travel expenses for flights, fuel, food, refreshments and accommodation would need to be subject to negotiation with the client.

Some of the differences between wedding styles explained

Fine Art Photography

Photojournalistic specialists and fine art photographers donít normally tend to shoot many purely traditional images. Events, people and elements are photographed with a more artistic approach, with the use of various lighting techniques. The Fine Art photographer in Battle is adept in the use of black and white photography and at producing less candid, beautifully composed photos, full of drama and artistic beauty.

Vintage Style Photography

Vintage photography is a style that has evolved and become increasingly more popular of late, helped by the emergence of vintage style filters. The market for couples who want vintage style weddings and photography has become quite large. This style of photography can evoke feelings of nostalgia and the old and timeless nature of that style really seems to appeal to people. The use of colour filters and lighting can help to transform images into works of art during the process of capturing images of a vintage theme in Battle.

Traditional or Classical

With traditional or classical photography, nearly every picture is considered to be a posed portrait, even those moments that may appear to be more spontaneous. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. The aim of traditional photography is to capture moments with dignity and artistry, using many posed shots, including many formal images, under a range of lighting options.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

Photojournalism looks to record moments on camera, rather than orchestrating specific staged shots. With this type of photography, you’ll get the happy shots of guests together during the day, as well as more spontaneous and candid photos; the obligatory group shots and the formal bride and groom photos will of course also be included. The photojournalistic wedding photographer tells the story of the day, using a mix of close-up and candid shots, showing spontaneous reaction and recording the atmosphere of the event , rather than orchestrating the scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

Black and White photographs often create a timeless and classic look. Although many clients prefer colour photographs, a large number also appreciate the way that removing colour can enhance the mood captured in images. Preference is what matters here. Monochrome images may not appeal so much to some people, but it can produce more compelling photos as it sometimes helps the context and the subject to shine through. Sometimes colour can fail to portray the atmosphere of a photo, where monochrome techniques can really bring it to life.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

Attention to detail during the shoot and excellent editing skills are required for this type of photography technique. Photographers who use HDR and colour popping techniques have the awareness, the creative eye and the technical photographic and editing capabilities to produce stunning images.
