When planning your wedding event, finding time to hire a photographer may initially be low on your priority list.

Your wedding photography does however, deserve some of your time. You need to set a budget for it and get a professional booked well in advance. Why hire a professional photographer for your wedding?

If your wedding is coming up soon then you have probably planned most of the necessities. You’ve arranged the venue, chosen your cake and booked a caterer. You have chosen your wedding theme colours, selected your flowers and your wedding gown is hung up and ready to go.

Your mind is now turning to how you are going to capture the big day photographically. Maybe you’ve thought about asking a relative or friend, who is an amateur photographer to take on the responsibility.

The savings you make on the wedding photography costs could be handy in other areas. This is a route that has been tried by many, but in truth has worked for very few.

A professional wedding photographer should take your photos

The benefits of hiring a professional photographer far outweigh the ultimate cost of having an amateur photographer taking your photos for free! There are dozens of special moments that happen on your wedding day and in a flash they’re gone and forgotten if not captured in your photos.

Key benefits of hiring wedding photography professionals

When you hire a specialist wedding photographer in Lewes or South-Chailey, the images you are presented with at the end will be of the highest quality and taken with the best photography equipment available.

The equipment such as cameras, are just a part of what it takes to capture great wedding photographs. The advent of camera phones has for some become a tempting way to try and save money on wedding photography. They often make a big mistake doing so. Every wedding day deserves photographs that are captured skillfully, in the style of your choosing. Let’s take a look at some of the main benefits of having a local professional with professional photography equipment, so that you can understand what you are actually paying for with a professional wedding photographer.

Camera equipment expertise, as well as being able to deal with indoor and outdoor lighting. A photographer is only as good as the lenses they use and the skills they possess and a full appreciation of lighting. A professional wedding photographer is preferred because of their skill, expertise and also the equipment they use. Although DSLR cameras are available to anyone, it takes experience and proficiency to capture the best possible photos and get the most out of any camera. The types of camera equipment being utilised is important, but just as important is the skill of the photographer that is using them. The ideal situation is that you have an expert photographer who can use top of the range equipment to its full potential. The skill of the photographer includes being able to take great photos in diverse lighting scenarios, depending on the weather, or the lighting at the wedding event venues.

The Role of the Photographer

Another very good reason to engage the services of a professional wedding photographer in Lewes or South-Chailey is that they’re going to be far less likely to become distracted than a family member or relative charged with capturing the day’s event. A professional photographer won’t be looking to get involved with the celebrations like a family member would.

A professional photographer won’t be tempted to chat with guests, grab a quick beer, or be first in line for cake when they should be taking an important shot. Every moment they’re there, their focus will be on unobtrusively capturing the best possible images that they can of the event.

Another thing to bear in mind is that wedding guests tend to respond to photoshoots better when they are being arranged by professional wedding photographers. If a relative is trying to organise a photo session, it might end up far less organised than if a professional were doing it.

The Style of the Photography

In order to attain photos with a specific style, you need to engage a professional wedding photographer with the style to match. How many amateurs do you think are even aware of the differences between fine art, contemporary, traditional, or photojournalistic photography styles?

Can an amateur photographer capture photos the way you want them? Often, this is not the case. Don’t rush into a decision; think about the style you want and get a photographer that can match it. Choose a professional who can immediately understand your style ideas when you explain them.

A Reliable and Communicative Professional

There are many more reasons that a professional photographer is a better choice than using a relative or enthusiast. A professional photographer brings a lot of experience of weddings to the table and can help you to stay on track with the schedule and find the right balance between getting things done and blending into the background.

A professional will be able to carry the wedding party along and subtly communicate where your guests need to be. They will use their voice and body language to encourage people to where they need to be, persuasively getting things done and enhancing rather than detracting from the celebration of your special day in South-Chailey. An amateur photographer, no matter how much effort they put in, will not be able to maintain a balance between the necessary distance, humour, intimacy and support while still getting the perfect shots.

Professional Wedding Photographers Are a Better Choice

Of all the people around you on your wedding day, your wedding photographer will probably be with you most. They will be with you from the preamble shots all the way to the departure.

Your wedding photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. Good wedding photographers will only be noticed when they need to organise a photo session. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.

They will be there to inform you of this and help you try to fix it. Your photographer will be your shadow all day in Lewes or Chailey, not your wedding planner. Your photographer will calm emotions when they heighten and ensure that people get to the right place at the right time.

Patience

As a wedding couple, you should engage the services of a wedding photographer that helps you feel comfortable. Considering the amount of time this individual is going to be a major part of your wedding day, you need to choose wisely. You want to be happy that you made the right decision.

The professional photographer will have to be technically skilled, with an added mix of patience, experience and understanding. With the camera, they need to ensure that you and your personality shines through on your wedding day. A professional will remain calm and in control even when things donít always go exactly to plan. A good wedding photographer will remain professional at all times and will be flexible, flowing and adapting to changing circumstances.

What You Can Expect from a Wedding Photographer?

Often people have never been in front of a professional camera before their wedding day. This can cause anxiety, especially if you are camera shy or tend to look awkward in photographs.

If you have done your homework by selecting a professional wedding photographer in Lewes or Chailey that matches your style, there are a few things that a wedding photographer will deliver to mark a satisfactory service.

Good Time Keeping and Professional Standards

Professionalism will shine through during your research into a photographer, while checking out their reputation, their enthusiasm for photography and their portfolio itself. You want your wedding photographer to get on with the guests, to have an excellent attitude towards time keeping and to dress in a suitable manner for your wedding. Your photographer should arrive early on the day, to scout the location having probably visited relevant locations several times already.

The Day Before the Wedding - the Rehearsal

In many cases, church wedding ceremonies have a rehearsal during the week before the wedding. In many cases you photographer will choose to attend this event and to speak to the presiding minister about where they can and cannot stand and what they can and cannot do during ceremony. The registrar will normally be consulted on the day of the wedding with civil ceremonies, in order for the wedding photographer to get the information they need.

The Big Wedding Day

Your wedding photographer will take pictures of the bridal paraphernalia, the timing for this will be pre agreed. He will stay with you for the entire day and will mirror you through the day without interrupting. Jeff Woodall photography will be poised to capture all of the beautiful moments through the day, without intruding in any way. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help.

Sometime after the first dance, your wedding photographer will have a conversation with you to find out whether there are any more pictures that you would like taken. If you decide to call it a day, the photographer will start their backup process. Every photo will be stored on a reliable backup storage device and kept safe until such a time as the photos have been through the full editing process and have been delivered to you to your satisfaction. We fully understand that your photographs are precious and need to be looked after.

Getting Your Wedding Photos Edited

The editing of wedding photographs takes place in the days after the wedding in Lewes and is a crucial part of the wedding photography process. At the start of the editing stage, the photos need to be sifted through so that the best ones can be selected. The pictures that have been chosen, then go through a subtle editing approach, with light touches to enhance the images.

Jeff Woodall photography provide clients with images that are high resolution. Images are cropped and have their colours balanced where necessary, but is limited to minor adjustments. Various effects can be achieved during the post processing of your images, including monochrome conversions.

The images are then exported and uploaded to an online password protected gallery, ready to be viewed by you, your friends and family as you wish. You will also be given all high resolution images on a USB stick. If you want to share access to your wedding photos on your own online gallery, weíll give you instructions on how to do so, as well as providing a high-definition backup of all your photos on a USB stick.

Here to help after event

Once you have your photos, you’ll be looking for a way to present them and Jeff Woodall photography will be available to discuss the design of wedding photo books and to talk you through wedding album options. Early on you’ll probably decide if you want a digital photo book album and the different colours and styles that you will require, but it’ll probably take you a while after your wedding ceremony to decide which of the images you are going to want to include.

80 images is around the number you should be looking to choose, but your photographer will guide you on this. Your photographer then begins the design work to create your stunning album.

Here is a list of things included in a wedding photography package

Here is a summary of what you will typically find in a wedding photography package. Some of the details are given, others you may need to pay careful attention to. The number of wedding events you want photos from.

You can choose to have the photographer at any event including the engagement party, the bridal shower, the wedding ceremony and of course the wedding reception and after party. This decision will dictate how many days you have for the photographer and will be made early on in your planning stages. You need to communicate which events you want captured to get them in the diary.

Number of hours for the shoot in Lewes or South-Chailey

Photographers will normally price up based on the likely time involved. With weddings, we understand that exact timings and schedule are very individual and that they need to go with the flow of your day. We need to be flexible and so we tend to take a different approach to pricing our wedding packages.

Photographers often [I used to] have different packages in South-Chailey i.e. Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc. When you start adding extra options, wedding album packages, design and other things it can get quite complicated. I find it works better to have a set price for a full day’s coverage. I understand that there may be an extra hour here or there due to delays etc. We know you don’t want to have an extra hour billed after the event, just because your schedule fell behind and the eight hours you paid for in the Silver package didn’t cover the full day. In cases where weddings are overseas, or in remote locations, there would need to be some negotiation regarding fuel or flights, food and accommodation.

What are the differences between all these different styles?

Fine Art Photography

Just as with photography of a photojournalistic style, fine art photographers don’t normally take that many shots that are of a traditional nature. Rather, their pictures are captured through an artistic appreciation of events, elements and people, accented with the use of stunning lighting. Typically, a fine art photographer in South-Chailey is highly skilled at creating and staging photos that are artistic and beautifully full of drama, applying filters to photos during editing, including often using monochrome conversions.

Vintage Style Photography

Vintage photo filters have become quite popular over the last decade and has resulted in more demand for this style of photography. The number of weddings that are being photographed with a vintage wedding theme in mind, seems to be steadily growing. Something about old, timeless photographs appeals to people, maybe it’s the feeling of nostalgia which this style of photography evokes. Through the use of various methods, such as colour filters used in this style, professional photographers are able to transform pretty standard looking images into works of art.

Traditional or Classical

With traditional or classical photography, nearly every picture is considered to be a posed portrait, even those moments that may appear to be more spontaneous. With this style of photography, you are likely to get more static images than spontaneous flowing, action shots, although the images you get won’t feel overly staged. The aim of traditional photography is to capture moments with dignity and artistry, using many posed shots, including many formal images, under a range of lighting options.

Photojournalistic or Reportage

This style of photography is less about orchestrating and creating moments to capture on camera, than reporting those special moments of the day. The formal shots you would expect at every wedding, will be captured, as well as group wedding guest shots. The photojournalistic wedding photographer tells the story of the day, using a mix of close-up and candid shots, showing spontaneous reaction and recording the atmosphere of the event , rather than orchestrating the scenes.

Black and White (Monochrome)

Black and White photographs often create a timeless and classic look. Colour images are preferred by some clients, while some appreciate how the mood of their photos can be enhanced by the desaturation of colours. You need to decide what you like. Monochrome images aren’t always liked by everybody, but using this style can really draw attention to particular aspects of the sceneís composition and subject matter. Sometimes colour can fail to portray the atmosphere of a photo, where monochrome techniques can really bring it to life.

Colour Popped and HDR Techniques

When shooting pictures, this photography technique requires attention to detail and the ability to consider various different elements and this complexity continues into the editing stage. The photographer that uses HDR and colour popped techniques will use them sparingly, only with the right images, to maximise the impact of those colour popped or high dynamic scenes.
