Your wedding photos will capture cherished memories that you can turn to time and time again. The day after your wedding, your wedding dress will be packed away, your shoes boxed up, the flowers will wither and you’ll be finishing off the last crumbs of the wedding cake. but you will have your wedding photographs forever and you will be looking over them and sharing them for years to come, so do ensure that you place enough importance on having them done properly!
Why engage a wedding photographer for your big day?
The planning for your wedding day is probably almost done if your wedding is coming up soon. You’ve booked your caterer, cake and the venue. You’ve tried on and love your wedding dress and have chosen table decorations and flowers.
Your mind is now turning to how you are going to capture the big day photographically. Perhaps you are considering the option of asking a relative to bring their amateur photography skills to your wedding.
That would enable you to divert some of your budget to other areas of the wedding. This really is not the way that you should proceed.
You should hire a professional wedding photographer
The benefits you get when you hire a photographer with significant experience of weddings are much greater than the monetary savings you’ll make when you get the photos taken for free. There are dozens of special moments that happen on your wedding day and in a flash they’re gone and forgotten if not captured in your photos.
Some of the key benefits of professional wedding photography
When you choose to hire a professional wedding photographer in Lowfield-Heath the pictures you receive will be quality, in high resolution, captured with the best photography equipment and edited with skill, using professional editing software.
A professional wedding photographer will be able to take great pictures, using a combination of skill, the latest digital equipment and software, giving you a superb finished product.
The equipment such as cameras, are just a part of what it takes to capture great wedding photographs. The advent of camera phones has for some become a tempting way to try and save money on wedding photography. This might be a huge mistake. Everyone wants beautifully composed and captured photographs of their wedding day. Let’s take a look at some of the main benefits of having a professional in Crawley or Lowfield-Heath with professional photography equipment, so that you can understand what you are actually paying for with a professional wedding photographer.
A detailed knowledge of their camera equipment and how to deal with variable lighting conditions. A photographerís resultant images will not be as impressive as they could be if they don’t have a variety of camera lenses and the knowledge and skills to use them, together with various lighting options. A professional wedding photographer is preferred because of their skill, expertise and also the equipment they use. Although DSLR cameras are available to anyone, it takes experience and proficiency to capture the best possible photos and get the most out of any camera. The types of camera equipment being utilised is important, but just as important is the skill of the photographer that is using them. The ideal scenario is that you have the best equipment available and a highly skilled professional photographer to be able to get the most out of it. This includes various photographic lighting options, which might be necessary depending on the degree of ambient light available due to the weather conditions or the available light at the chosen venues.

The Roles of Expert Photographers
One other very good reason to hire a professional wedding photographer, instead of using a relative, is that theyíre less likely to become distracted. When you pay a professional photographer, theyíre there to do a job, whereas a family member is more likely to be looking to enjoy the celebrations.
They wonít miss that crucial loving moment because theyíre eating cake, downing a beer, or chatting with wedding guests. Every moment theyíre there, their focus will be on unobtrusively capturing the best possible images that they can of the event.
Something else that is a factor is that wedding guests tend to respect photo opportunities much more when they are gently marshalled by professional photographers. When family members are taking control of a family photo session it tends to be taken less seriously.
The Photography Style
If you have in mind a particular photographic style, then you should hire a professional that is an expert in that area or style. If you asked the majority of amateur photographers what the difference is between fine art, contemporary, traditional or photojournalistic photography styles, most wouldnít have a clue.
Are you certain that theyíre going to be able to provide you with the photos that you dream of? In most cases, they will fall short. Take a bit of time to understand what it is you want and then hire a photographer that can deliver that style. Choose a professional who can immediately understand your style ideas when you explain them.
A Great Communicator and Reliable, too
A professional photographer is normally a much better choice than an amateur photographer or enthusiast and weíve already touched on a few other reasons so far. Itís easy to underestimate the degree of experience a professional brings to the day and how they can contribute to it going smoothly, in spite of the various inevitable challenges.
A professional wedding photographer will get people where they need to be for each photo and plan all the photo sessions to ensure no one gets missed out, or no opportunity is missed. They will use their voice and body language to encourage people to where they need to be, persuasively getting things done and enhancing rather than detracting from the celebration of your special day. Amateur photographers, no matter how hard they try, will find it hard to identify the right approach to photo sessions, being distant to a degree, professional, humorous, encouraging and supporting guests through the process, in order to capture those memorable shots.
Professional Wedding Photographers Provide More
Of all the people around you on your wedding day, your wedding photographer will probably be with you most. They will be with you from the preamble shots all the way to the departure.
Your wedding photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. If a photographer knows what theyíre doing, they wonít be noticed throughout the day. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.
Their detailed focus will help you fix any little issues and get better photos. Your photographer will be your shadow all day, not your wedding planner. Your photographer will calm emotions when they heighten and ensure that people get to the right place at the right time.
A Patient Demeanor
Itís really important that you hire a wedding photographer that puts you at ease. This is a person you are going to be around a great deal on one of the most special days of your life. The person you have decided on needs to be the right one.
The professional photographer will have to be technically skilled, with an added mix of patience, experience and understanding. They need to go with the flow and be able to make your personality shine brightly on your special day in Crawley or Lowfield-Heath. A good photographer will remain balanced and relaxed even throughout the many challenges during the day. An expert wedding photographer is flexible and goes with the flow of the event, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
What You Can Expect from a Wedding Photographer?
For most people, the wedding day will be the first time they find themselves in front of a professional photographerís camera lens. This can cause anxiety, especially if you are camera shy or tend to look awkward in photographs.
Having spent some time considering the best professional wedding photographer in Crawley or Lowfield-Heath to match the styles you want, you can now rest assured that they will do certain things to make the process run smoothly.
Professional Conduct and Prompt Time Keeping
You can be reassured that the photographer will be professional by researching their reputation, their previous work and their passion for what they do. Itís important that the wedding photographer you choose gets there on time, has a great attitude and gets on with people. By arriving early your wedding photographer will be able to scout the location and choose some excellent vantage points, although they will probably have visited your key event locations prior to the big day.
Rehearsals for the Wedding Day
Church weddings tend to have a rehearsal date within a week of the main event. In many cases you photographer will choose to attend this event and to speak to the presiding minister about where they can and cannot stand and what they can and cannot do during ceremony. With civil ceremonies, the photographers will normally have a discussion with the registrar prior to the wedding starting.

Getting Your Wedding Photos Edited
The editing of wedding photographs takes place in the days after the wedding and is a crucial part of the wedding photography process. The first step is to select the best images that tell the story of your wedding. The editing of the digital photographs then begins with a light touch approach that ensures a subtle process of enhancement.
Jeff Woodall photography only use beautifully sharp images. During post processing, the images undergo some minor editing. They are colour balanced and cropped. Some of the pictures may be converted to monochrome and other style filters may be applied to further enhance the overall effects of your images.
The photos are then ready to be exported from the photo editing suite into an online password protected gallery, as well as uploaded to a USB stick and delivered to you, ready for sharing on social media and for printing. We know that you’ll want to be sharing your beautiful wedding photos online and giving access to your family and friends. So, weíll provide instructions of how to share your online gallery access with everyone you want to and weíll provide you with a USB stick with high-definition pictures as well.
Here to help after event
Jeff Woodall photography will always be on hand, accessible to talk about wedding photo album options and the design of wedding photo books if you so require them. Early on you’ll probably decide if you want a digital photo book album and the different colours and styles that you will require, but it’ll probably take you a while after your wedding ceremony to decide which of the images you are going to want to include.
Typically the photographer will ask you to choose 80 or so images. The design of the album is then carried out by your photographer.
The amazing wedding photography package you will get in Lowfield-Heath
What is normally included in packages for wedding photography
To find out more about what wedding packages normally include. Some of the items you may not need to go through in detail, whilst others are highly important. Which events you want the photographer at.
You may want the photographer for the engagement party, the bridal shower, as well as the wedding ceremony and after-party. This is the first thing to be discussed and can also be divided into the number of days. This will add up to a certain number of days and is normally the first thing that you need to decide. Once you have decided on dates, you need to get them in the photographer’s diary.
How many hours you want the photographer for the shoot in Crawley or Lowfield-Heath
Generally, a photographer will use time as one of the main methods to price an assignment. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.
Many photographers (and I used to) offer a range of packages in Lowfield-Heath, such as Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. What exactly gets delivered becomes complicated, especially in those cases where additional options are added to these package deals. When you choose me, you get a fixed price for the day, with no hidden extras. I won’t question doing an extra hour here or there. We understand that things can run a little off schedule and don’t want you to be billed for an extra hour here or there if a Silver or Gold package, didn’t cover the hours to fully record your event. For wedding ceremonies that are a long way away and need significant travel or even flights, there would be some negotiation required over accommodation, fuel, flights, food and refreshments.
Some of the differences between wedding styles explained
Fine Art Photography
Photographers that concentrate on a fine art style, don’t usually take traditional shots, just as photojournalistic photographers don’t. Events, people and elements are photographed with a more artistic approach, with the use of various lighting techniques. The Fine Art photographer is adept in the use of black and white photography and at producing less candid, beautifully composed photos, full of drama and artistic beauty.
Vintage Style Photography
Vintage photography is a style that has evolved and become increasingly more popular of late, helped by the emergence of vintage style filters. The number of weddings that are being photographed with a vintage wedding theme in mind, seems to be steadily growing. Photographs of the Vintage style are timeless, old and has the power to stir emotions in people, which is perhaps why the style has become so appealing. Through the use of various methods, such as colour filters used in this style, professional photographers are able to transform pretty standard looking images into works of art.
Traditional or Classical
With traditional or classical photography, details of shots are considered staged, even those that you may think look spontaneous. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. Traditional photographers are likely to want to record of the formalities of the wedding ceremony and to portray the dignity and meaning of the ceremony, with subtle lighting.
Photojournalistic or Reportage
This style involves the recording of events as opposed to the staging of them. With this type of shot you will get all of the expected group and formal shots, as well as lots more spontaneous images as well as the normal formals of guests throughout the day. Photographers with a photojournalistic style will shy away from orchestrating too many moments during the day, except those formal group shots, or bride and groom images they need to take. They prefer to record close-ups of the bride, groom and wedding guests and really document the dayís actual emotions and feelings.
Black and White (Monochrome)
This style is excellent for timeless, classical, emotion-packed photographs. Although many people prefer colour images, others appreciate how removing that colour and by the skillfully use of post processing techniques, really create pictures that are packed with atmosphere. You need to decide what you like. Not everyone prefers monochrome images, but there’s no doubt that photographs can be made more compelling by emphasising areas of focus and the composition with this method. Black and white images can be effective in portraying an atmospheric, or nostalgic and timeless feel, that is sometimes elusive in the colour version.
Colour Popped and HDR Techniques
This area of photography requires skill in techniques that involve shooting with a lot of attention to detail and the post processing becomes a little more complex too. This technique of photography [ HDR / colour popped] involves picking the right scenes and the right processing software to create highly appealing photographs with colours that pop and stunning detail that is striking for the viewer.
