Why hire a professional photographer for your wedding?
If your wedding day is just around the corner, then you have probably planned most of what you need to plan. Catering for the event is in hand, the wedding cake is chosen and the wedding venue is all booked. You’ve tried on and love your wedding dress and have chosen table decorations and flowers.
Your mind is now turning to how you are going to capture the big day photographically. Perhaps you’ve spoken to your nephew about taking the photographs at your wedding.
It wouldn’t cost you anything and you can save yourself some money to budget for other things. This is certainly not the way to go.
A professional wedding photographer should take your photos
The savings you make by using an amateur photographer are not worth the risk you are taking of being left with poor quality images to look back on. There are dozens of special moments that happen on your wedding day and in a flash they’re gone and forgotten if not captured in your photos.
Benefits of hiring pro-wedding photography
Hiring a professional wedding photographer in East-Dean means you will be left with pictures of the best quality, created using the best skills and equipment available.
As well as a wealth of knowledge and experience, wedding photographers in East-Dean have access to premium photography equipment and software to enable them to capture the best wedding pictures possible.
The physical equipment such as cameras, is just part of the equation in terms of capturing the best photographic images. Camera phones are pretty amazing these days and many people are tempted to try and save money by using them for their wedding photos. This could probably be one of the biggest mistakes you make. Every wedding day deserves photographs that are captured skillfully, in the style of your choosing. Let’s take a look at some of the main benefits of having a professional in East-Dean with professional photography equipment, so that you can understand what you are actually paying for with a professional wedding photographer.
Camera equipment expertise, as well as being able to deal with indoor and outdoor lighting. A photographer is only as good as the lenses they use and the skills they possess and a full appreciation of lighting. Professional wedding photographers tend to have much better equipment and much more experience in using a diverse range of setups. DSLR cameras are accessible to most amateurs, but their full potential is only really realised in the hands of experienced pros. Both the camera equipment and the photographer are equally important in creating and capturing great photos. In order to get your dream photos, you need high end camera equipment and a wedding photographer with the experience, talent and knowledge to use it appropriately to its full potential. This includes being able to take great pictures in different photographic lighting conditions, indoors and outdoors, with different natural and artificial light at the venue.

The Role the Photographer Plays
Another reason to hire a professional wedding photographer in East-Dean, rather than trusting a family member or a friend with the task, is it they will be less distracted. The professional photographer wonít be striving to enjoy the day and become part of the celebration, like a family member would want to do.
They wonít miss that crucial loving moment because theyíre eating cake, downing a beer, or chatting with wedding guests. Every moment theyíre there, their focus will be on unobtrusively capturing the best possible images that they can of the event.
Another thing to bear in mind is that wedding guests tend to respond to photoshoots better when they are being arranged by professional wedding photographers. If you have a member of your family taking photos of everyone, guests might not take the photo sessions so seriously.
The Photographic Style
In order to get a specific photographic style, you need a professional photographer whose style matches what youíre looking for. If you want to ask an amateur photographer, the chances are that theyíre not familiar with the differences between traditional, contemporary, fine art, or photojournalistic styles.
Are you willing to gamble that theyíre able to produce the pictures that you will treasure? In many cases, they will not have the skills to do so. Have a long think about this and make sure your wedding photographerís style is in sync with yours. Choose a professional who can immediately understand your style ideas when you explain them.
A Great Communicator and Reliable, too
There are still even more reasons why you should choose a professional photographer in East-Dean over an enthusiast or amateur friend or relative. A professional photographer brings a lot of experience of weddings to the table and can help you to stay on track with the schedule and find the right balance between getting things done and blending into the background.
A professional will be able to carry the wedding party along and subtly communicate where your guests need to be. They will use their voice and body language to encourage people to where they need to be, persuasively getting things done and enhancing rather than detracting from the celebration of your special day in East-Dean. Amateur photographers find it incredibly difficult to maintain the necessary distance, humour, intimacy and support along with effectively communicating to get the perfect shot.
Professional Wedding Photographers Are a Better Choice
Of all the people around you on your wedding day, your wedding photographer will probably be with you most. The wedding photographer will take the initial shots during the day as you get ready and even travel to the church and will stay with you throughout the day and maybe until you leave for home or honeymoon.
Your wedding photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. The best wedding photographers are practically invisible, until you need a photo taken. The photographer will notice if a picture is being spoiled by a lipstick stain on a collar, or a wonky handkerchief.
Your photographer will help you try and fix anything that could spoil a quality photo. Your wedding planner will spend far less time with you during the day in East-Dean than your photographer will. The photographer will help the wedding party be where they need to be, when they need to be and to be as calm as they should be.
Patience Is the Key
As a couple, you need to hire a professional photographer that you are comfortable with. Consider the amount of time you will spend with the person on one of the most important days of your life. You want that decision to feel right at every moment of the day.
The professional photographer will have to be technically skilled, with an added mix of patience, experience and understanding. They need to go with the flow and be able to make your personality shine brightly on your special day in East-Dean. A professional will remain calm and in control even when things donít always go exactly to plan. The best wedding photographers flow with the event, are flexible and adaptable with the images they capture, whilst always maintaining professional standards.
Your Wedding Photographer and What to Expect?
For most people, the wedding day will be the first time they find themselves in front of a professional photographerís camera lens. This can cause anxiety, especially if you are camera shy or tend to look awkward in photographs.
Having invested some time to choose the right wedding photographer, you can be assured that they will do certain things to make the process less stressful.
A Professional Attitude and Good Time Keeping
Professionalism comes naturally if you hire someone based on their reputation and passion. Your photographer should be friendly, polite, punctual and appropriately dressed for the event. Your wedding photographer should get there ahead of schedule to take a look around and find their vantage points for the day.
Wedding Day Rehearsal (The day before)
It is customary for church wedding ceremonies to have a rehearsal a few days before the big day. In many cases you photographer will choose to attend this event and to speak to the presiding minister about where they can and cannot stand and what they can and cannot do during ceremony. The registrar will normally be consulted on the day of the wedding with civil ceremonies, in order for the wedding photographer to get the information they need.
The Day Arrives – the Wedding
Your photographer will arrive at the agreed time to capture the bridal presentations. He wonít interrupt at any point during the day but will be with you throughout. The goal at Jeff Woodall photography is to ensure that every precious moment is captured, but to remain unobtrusive and in the background until such a time as you have questions to answer, or you need some help. Itís crucial to the team at Jeff Woodall photography that every precious memory is captured on camera and that we remain unobtrusive, so the day can play out naturally; we are of course available for any questions and we strive to raise the spirits of everyone in the party.

Jeff Woodall photography will keep all photos backed up on a storage device until they have been through the editing suite process and are delivered to your satisfaction. Your photographs are as important to us as they are to you.
The Wedding Photo Editing Stage
Editing the images is an important part of preparing your wedding photography package, completed in the days after the wedding event in East-Dean. At the start of the editing stage, the photos need to be sifted through so that the best ones can be selected. The editing of the digital photographs then begins with a light touch approach that ensures a subtle process of enhancement.
The images provided to clients by Jeff Woodall photography are always high resolution. The pictures that require a little work are edited for colour balance and size. Some images will be converted to black and white and may have other styles applied as appropriate.
The pictures are then prepared and uploaded for viewing, by anyone you want to give access in an online password protected Gallery. They are also provided to you on a presentation USB stick. Weíll provide you with all the instructions you need for how to access the online gallery and how to share it with your family and friends and we’ll also send you the USB stick with easy to use instructions on how to share your photos online.
Follow-up client support
Jeff Woodall photography will be available for everything else you need; to talk about albums, or the types of bespoke wedding photo books that can be designed for you. Early on you’ll probably decide if you want a digital photo book album and the different colours and styles that you will require, but it’ll probably take you a while after your wedding ceremony to decide which of the images you are going to want to include.
In most cases the photo book capacity will be around 80 images. Your photographer then begins the design work to create your stunning album.
The amazing wedding photography package you will get in East-Dean
What is normally included in packages for wedding photography
Below is a list of the what is included in a wedding photography package. Some of the items below are highly important, whereas others you may not even need to talk about. How many events you want photographed.
You may want the photographer for the engagement party, the bridal shower, as well as the wedding ceremony and after-party. This would equate to how many days the photographer provides to you and will be early on in the decision-making process. You need to communicate the dates and times of events with the photographer.
How many hours of shooting in East-Dean
Photographers will normally price up based on the likely time involved. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.
If you have looked around already, then you probably know that photographers frequently have different packages that they offer such as a ëPlatinumí, ëgoldí, ëSilverí and a ëBronzeí package in East-Dean. This way of doing things can get over complicated and even more so when additional options and extras are added to the mix. I find it works better to have a set price for a full day’s coverage. I won’t question doing an extra hour here or there. Accommodation and travel to and from weddings. If your wedding destination is a long way away, weíll need to negotiate expenses for accommodation, flights, fuel and food.
A Look at the Differences in Styles
Fine Art Photography
Photojournalistic specialists and fine art photographers donít normally tend to shoot many purely traditional images. Instead, they use an artistic approach to capture elements, people and events, with a subtle use of effective lighting techniques. The beautifully composed photos that fine art photographers take in East-Dean tend to have an artistic and dramatic quality and they often apply striking filters and convert images to black and white.
Vintage Style Photography
Vintage photo filters have become quite popular over the last decade and has resulted in more demand for this style of photography. The number of wedding couples that choose to have vintage wedding photography has grown fast. Something about old, timeless photographs appeals to people, maybe itís the feeling of nostalgia which this style of photography evokes. Vintage photography done well in East-Dean, transforms ordinary images into artistic work of art using colour filters and various props and lighting tricks.
Traditional or Classical
In traditional or classical photography, each moment is captured as if it staged and a portrait, rather than spontaneous and ad hoc as they might seem. Although the photographs won’t feel overly posed or artificial, you probably won’t get many action shots in the wedding album. The goal of photographers who prefer the traditional style is to take pictures that reflect the artistry and dignity of the wedding ceremony, with stunning lighting techniques.
Photojournalistic or Reportage
Similar to a documentary style, photojournalism photography is about recording the event, rather than orchestrating them. With this type of photography, you’ll get the happy shots of guests together during the day, as well as more spontaneous and candid photos; the obligatory group shots and the formal bride and groom photos will of course also be included. Photographers with a photojournalistic style will shy away from orchestrating too many moments during the day, except those formal group shots, or bride and groom images they need to take. They prefer to record close-ups of the bride, groom and wedding guests and really document the dayís actual emotions and feelings.
Black and White (Monochrome)
This can be an effective way to present classic, timeless images. Although many clients prefer colour photographs, a large number also appreciate the way that removing colour can enhance the mood captured in images. You need to decide what you like. Some people really don’t like monochrome images, but black and white photographs can tend to enhance the feeling of atmosphere when done well, helping to focus attention on the subjects of the images. Black and white photographs have the capacity to really enhance the atmosphere of an image, that is sometimes lost in the colour option.
Colour Popped and HDR Techniques
Attention to detail during the shoot and excellent editing skills are required for this type of photography technique. The photographer chooses the appropriate moment with which to use these techniques, finally skillfully uses the right processing software to produce quality images with colours that pop and emphasises particular areas of a scene.
