The Roles of Expert Barn Wedding Photographers
A professional Barn Wedding Photographer in Sussex is far less likely to be distracted by situations of the day than a family member or relative. The professional photographer wonít be striving to enjoy the day and become part of the celebration, like a family member would want to do.

They won’t miss important shots while eating a slice of cake, drinking alcohol or chit chatting with relatives. Theyíll be concentrating on the job in hand, candidly capturing some of the best images they can for the duration of the event.
Wedding shoots also tend to go much better when guests are engaging with paid, professional barn wedding photographers. Photoshoots taken by a relative tend to be less organised and taken less seriously than those arranged by professionals.
The Style of the Barn Wedding Photography
In order to get a specific photographic style, you need a professional photographer whose style matches what youíre looking for. If you want to ask an amateur photographer, the chances are that theyíre not familiar with the differences between traditional, contemporary, fine art, or photojournalistic styles.
Can an amateur really deliver the pictures that are going to inspire you forever? Often, this is not the case. Donít rush into a decision; think about the style you want and get a photographer that can match it. Choose a professional who can immediately understand your style ideas when you explain them.
Communication Skills and Timeliness
There are still even more reasons why you should choose a professional photographer in Sussex over an enthusiast or amateur friend or relative. You shouldnít underestimate the wealth of experience the professional brings in dealing with the various challenges of the big day.
A professional Barn Wedding Photographer will get people where they need to be for each photo and plan all the photo sessions to ensure no one gets missed out, or no opportunity is missed. They will use body language and verbal messages, without imposing on your guests, to run through the necessary formalities whilst enhancing the celebration of your wedding day in Sussex. Maintaining a balance between holding a distance as a photographer but getting involved to encourage people is a very difficult balance to strike and very few amateurs have the experience to do it.
You Get More with Professional Barn Wedding Photographers
Of all the people around you on your wedding day, your Barn Wedding Photographer will probably be with you most. They will photograph you getting ready and spending time before the event and perhaps be around all the way until you leave the venue.
Your Barn Wedding Photographer remains with you throughout every special moment of the day, capturing memories and blending into the background. If they know what theyíre doing, you wonít even notice them. Your photographer will notice if there are untucked shirts or jackets missing in photos, as they will have a keen eye for every detail.
They are there to help you get the best pictures and will try and fix anything that is in the way of that goal. Your photographer will be your shadow all day in Sussex, not your wedding planner. The experience of the photographer will help to ensure that the wedding party know where they are going and when and help to alleviate any anxiety or emotions as they arise.
The Epitome of Patience
As a wedding couple, you should engage the services of a Barn Wedding Photographer that helps you feel comfortable. Youíre going to be spending a lot of time with this person on your wedding day. You want that decision to feel right at every moment of the day.
The professional photographer must have a great deal of patience, empathy, technical skill and great communication skills. With the camera, they need to ensure that you and your personality shines through on your wedding day in Sussex. A professional will remain calm and in control even when things donít always go exactly to plan. A good Barn Wedding Photographer will remain professional at all times and will be flexible, flowing and adapting to changing circumstances.
What to Expect from Your Barn Wedding Photographer?

A Professional Attitude and Good Time Keeping
After looking at a photographer based on their reputation, the passion for their work and their portfolio of previous work, you can feel comfortable that you will have hired someone who is professional. You want your Barn Wedding Photographer to get on with the guests, to have an excellent attitude towards time keeping and to dress in a suitable manner for your wedding. Your photographer should get to your wedding venues earlier than the guests so that they can get a feel for the environment; they will probably have been to some of the venues already in order to understand the limitations and possibilities.
The Day Before the Wedding - the Rehearsal
In many cases, church wedding ceremonies have a rehearsal during the week before the wedding. In many cases you photographer will choose to attend this event and to speak to the presiding minister about where they can and cannot stand and what they can and cannot do during ceremony. With civil ceremonies, the photographers will normally have a discussion with the registrar prior to the wedding starting in Sussex.
The Wedding
The bridal presentations will be captured by your photographer, he will arrive as agreed. He will stay with you for the entire day and will mirror you through the day without interrupting. Jeff Woodall photography’s ethos is to be very subtle, at staying in the background without interrupting the day, but being available to keep spirits high and answer any difficult questions, making sure that every single memory is captured in digital format. Jeff Woodall photography prides itself on its ability to remain unobtrusive but to always be available for questions and to keep spirits high, ensuring that no beautifully precious moment is lost.
At some point in the night, often after the first dance, your Barn Wedding Photographer will check with you to find out if thereís anything else you would like to be pictured. If you decide to call it a day, the photographer will start their backup process. Jeff Woodall does a full backup of the wedding images, to separate hard drives, which will be kept in a safe place on his photo editing suite, where they’ll remain until all the wedding photographs have been completely edited and delivered to you. We treat your photographs as the precious digital data that they are.
Getting Your Barn Wedding Photos Edited
Editing is a crucial stage in the wedding photography process and will be completed within the days that follow the event in Sussex. The first step is to select the best images that tell the story of your wedding. The editing of the digital photographs then begins with a light touch approach that ensures a subtle process of enhancement.
The images provided to clients by Jeff Woodall photography are always high resolution. During post processing, the images undergo some minor editing. They are colour balanced and cropped. To achieve other effects, subtle style filters may be applied to some of your wedding images and some may be converted to monochrome.
Once through the editing process, the images are exported to both USB and an online password protected gallery, for viewing by everyone that you want to give access. Sharing your wedding photos is great fun and so we provide you with the USB stick with high definition pictures and instructions of how to give access to your online gallery to friends and family.
Here to help after event
Jeff Woodall photography will always be on hand, accessible to talk about wedding photo album options and the design of barn wedding photo books if you so require them. It can take some time after the wedding ceremony to decide on which pictures to include in your digital photo book album, even if you have already decided on colours, styles and designs.
80 images is around the number you should be looking to choose, but your photographer will guide you on this. The design of the album is then carried out by your photographer.

You may want the photographer for the engagement party, the bridal shower, as well as the wedding ceremony and after-party. The shoot duration in Sussex
Typically, a barn wedding photographer will work out pricing based on the number of hours they need to put into any assignment. At Jeff Woodall Photography we tend to use this method of pricing for events and for portraits, but we understand that each wedding has a bespoke schedule and that we need to be flexible to go with the day and so we work a little differently.
Many photographers (and I used to) offer a range of packages in Sussex, such as Platinum, Gold, Silver Bronze. It all gets quite complicated, especially if different photo album packages are also added to the mix. I find it works better to have a set price for a full day’s coverage. I understand that there may be an extra hour here or there due to delays etc. We don’t want to bill you an extra hour or two after the wedding because it didn’t go exactly to schedule and the package you pay for didn’t have enough hours. If there is travel involved to the wedding ceremony there would need to be some negotiation over the expenses involved in terms of accommodation, fuel or flights, food and refreshments.

What are the differences between all these different styles?
Fine Art Photography
Photographers that concentrate on a fine art style, don’t usually take traditional shots, just as photojournalistic photographers donít. Instead, they use an artistic approach to capture elements, people and events, with a subtle use of effective lighting techniques. The beautifully composed photos that fine art photographers take in Sussex tend to have an artistic and dramatic quality and they often apply striking filters and convert images to black and white.
Vintage Style Photography
Vintage image filters have become very popular and so this style of photography has quickly evolved. The number of wedding couples that choose to have vintage wedding photography has grown fast. With vintage images there is certainly a timeless quality that can stir nostalgic emotion, which may be the cause of such an increase in the appeal of this artistic style. Vintage photography in Sussex is regarded as almost an art form, where the ordinary is transformed into stunning evocative images using colour filters and specialist lighting.
Traditional or Classical
Even apparently spontaneous shots are often treated as staged portrait pictures with traditional or classical photography. With this style of photography, you are likely to get more static images than spontaneous flowing, action shots, although the images you get won’t feel overly staged. Traditional photographers are likely to want to record of the formalities of the wedding ceremony and to portray the dignity and meaning of the ceremony, with subtle lighting.
Photojournalistic or Reportage
This style involves the recording of events as opposed to the staging of them. As always, the necessary formal shots will be taken, as well as a number of spontaneous happy shots group shots during the day. The photo journalistic photographer is all about immortalizing the spontaneous reactions and emotions of the day as they happen, rather than orchestrating and staging their images.
Black and White (Monochrome)
This style is excellent for timeless, classical, emotion-packed photographs. Black-and-white photos are appreciated by many for their ability to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the scene being depicted. It really comes down to what you prefer. Monochrome images aren’t always liked by everybody, but using this style can really draw attention to particular aspects of the scene, it’s composition and subject matter. Black and white photographs have the capacity to really enhance the atmosphere of an image, that is sometimes lost in the colour option.
Colour Popped and HDR Techniques
When shooting pictures, this photography technique requires attention to detail and the ability to consider various different elements and this complexity continues into the editing stage. The photographer chooses the appropriate moment with which to use these techniques, finally skillfully uses the right processing software to produce quality images with colours that pop and emphasises particular areas of a scene.
